Every other day we are exposed to a new skincare secret. Take for example, oils. Beauty oils are often known as one of nature’s multi tasking products. Use it on your hair or face and you’ll notice a significant improvement over time.

Now, would you ever consider adding crocodile oil to your beauty regime? Shocked? Well, let’s just say this is the latest ingredient to take the beauty world by storm and we are more than curious to explore the beauty benefits associated with it.

Before we do though, the first question that immediately pops into our mind has to do with safety. Rest assured, crocodile oil is safe to be used and the benefits are often compared to the likes of coconut oil or even better.

HOW IS CROCODILE OIL OBTAINED?

Crocodile oil is obtained from the fat of a crocodile, particularly the belly fat and it’s extracted when the meat is available for sale. The crocodile produces only half a litre of pure oil in general. A variety of industry methods are used to obtain every drop of oil possible before it is filtered to remove any form of impurities. In nature, the consistency is slightly thicker and appears clear with a slight tinted hue – which comes from the fats once it has settled to the bottom.

MOISTURIZING BENEFITS

Crocodile oil is said to be very moisturizing, especially for drier skin. If it’s moisturizing enough to protect the crocodile’s dry skin, it is good enough to help protect our skin against dehydration or from flaking. We presume this is going to be perfect for individuals with drier skin types. With beneficial properties such as vitamins A and E, rubbing a little crocodile oil will not only help nourish the skin but repair it too.

SKIN TREATMENT

Crocodile oil can also be used as a skin treatment for minor scabs and patches. It will help the skin to regenerate faster due to a high proportion of skin-protecting fatty acids found in the oil. As compared to coconut oil, this reptilian oil will help to protect the physiological barrier of the skin even after repair.

MASKING BENEFITS

Using the crocodile oil derived from the crocodile’s meat, a thick gel mask can be created for use. Not only will this mask help to hydrate your skin and replenish the moisture levels, it will help to plump up the skin as well – similar to what a collagen mask would do for your skin type.

While dermatologists have given the go-ahead for the beauty benefits of crocodile oil, what is left to be seen is whether companies will be coming up with crocodile oil products in the near future, especially since we cannot get hold of the oil as easily unless we make an appointment with Mr. Crocodile himself. There are also some concerns over how the oil will be obtained as many organizations are against hurting the animals in the process of doing so.

As quirky as it sounds, will you add crocodile oil to your beauty regime?
