1. Home Alone
A perfect movie for the family - unlimited laughter and lots of adventure with a zip line to the neighbour’s house. This 1990’s classic American Christmas movie that's about an 8-year old boy who was left alone at home for Christmas while his family flies to Paris for the holidays is definitely one to catch this season. Even if you've watched it multiple times over by now.

2. Miracle on 34th Street
A highly suitable movie for some quality mother-daughter time. A remake of the original, this is a Christmas favourite for being heartwarming yet not too cheesy. Six-year old Susan doubts her childhood miracle after she's told about the “secret” of the real Santa Claus. Things change when she meets a department store Santa, who is convinced that he is the real thing. Susan is gifted with something to believe in.

3. Christmas Carol
One of our favourites! This Charles Dickens holiday tale is a classic you shouldn’t miss. The story is about a miser, named Ebeneze Scrooge who hates the Christmas season and is always making excuses for his uncaring nature. After getting visits from three ghosts – the past, the present and the future - all in one night, Scrooge learns compassion and realizes the true meaning of Christmas.

4. Bad Santa
If you’re tired of all the feel-good movies and looking for something different, Bad Santa is your best bet. A miserable conman and his partner pose as Santa and his elf to rob department stores on Christmas Eve. Things get complicated when they encounter an 8-year-old who teaches them the true meaning of Christmas. Filled with sexual suggestions, this hysterical dark-comedy movie will have you laughing off your seat.

5. The Family Stone
Meeting your boyfriend's parents during the holidays? Take a lesson or two from Sarah Jessica Parker and Family Stone. An uptight and conservative businesswoman accompanies her boyfriend to his eccentric family’s Christmas dinner. Overwhelmed by their hostile reception, she asks her sister to join her for support but that only triggers more problems.

6. Love Actually
“All I want for Christmas is you” – How many times have we heard the song play in malls while doing Christmas shopping? A famous tune from the romantic comedy, which follows the lives of eight different couples in London, trying to deal with love five weeks before Christmas. If you still doubt that love is indeed in the air during the holiday season, this movie will change that.

7. It’s a Wonderful Life
Another one of those feel-good classics. The 1946 film features a frustrated businessman who is about to commit suicide when an angel helps him realize how important he is to his loved ones by showing him how life on earth would be like without him. An emotional movie for the family and filled with values of love and faith.

8. How the Grinch stole Christmas
Halloween and Christmas - two of our favourite holidays put together in one movie. This classic is one for the whole family to enjoy. The Grinch decides to ruin Christmas for the citizens of Whoville. Joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe away anything holiday-related. However, the bitter Grinch reaches a bump in his plans when he meets Cindy, a small child who tries to befriend him.

9. Elf
And because ‘tis the season to be jolly, it's a time for pure comedy. Elf shows us the journey of one of Santa’s elves who learns his true identity as a human and goes to New York City to meet his biological father whilse spreading the joy of Christmas in a world filled with cynical people.

And while this isn’t exactly a Christmas movie, we’ve added this one to our list because let’s be honest - who can resist singing to “Let it go”? The story is about a princess who curses her town to infinite winter and turns everything into ice, while her sister teams up with a mountain man to change the weather condition. Indeed, it is a very light-hearted movie that will make you forget your work stress and have you singing Christmas jingles in no time.
