From sombre colour palettes to butterfly prints and sheer stripes, this season of menswear is definitely not to be missed out on.

In light of the eclectic mix of flamboyance, whimsicality and sartorial experimentation displayed in the menswear collections during Seoul Fashion Week AW14 where concepts, textures and colours were amalgamated in ways like never before – we were literally brimming with excitement as to what SS15 would entail.

This season, while harnesses and mesh made their debut on a number of shows, the designers were more focused on breathing life into existing trends that have been gradually dissipating from the streets. We couldn’t help but notice the reinterpretation of stripes, monochromes and muscle tees – yes, ladies, all the better to appreciate those long hours at the gym.

Daring, fearless, yet simultaneously grounded by the sanity of wearability, it’s only a matter of time that these trends make their way back to the streets.

While solid shades have been favourites of many designers, prints this season took a feminine turn with Lie Sang Bong’s butterfly silhouettes, and a quirky turn as well at Surreal but Nice with the incoherent use of whimsical badges.

Stripe Situation

Gone are the days when stripes are shunned for fear of looking like a prisoner and twice your normal size. Opt for gargantuan sized stripes like those spotted on the Sling Stone runway, or perhaps alternate between sheer and opaque panels as seen at Resurrection if you fancy a game of peek-a-boo.

Banking on Bomber

Thrown over a crisp shirt, or better yet nothing at all, bomber jackets came in all colours, prints and materials this season as designers from the likes of RE:D, VanHart di Albazar and Byungmun Seo were all unabashed in establishing their outerwear bias.

Black & White

Drained of colour and all its distractions, seems like Korean designers have reached a common consensus that no other colour pairing could rival the arrogance and nonchalance of black and white. Most covetable piece goes to Resurrection’s outerwear, which was an utter beauty with its structured silhouette and intriguing play on mesh.

Muscle Manic

Perfect to battle the summer heat, not to mention flaunt, we have got Byungmun Seo, Jehee Sheen and Moohong to thank for making muscle tees tenfold cooler and less like a sloppy ensemble. Drapes, prints, and zip detailing, muscle tees will definitely be all the rage next season.
