Staff Picks: Marie France Asia’s favourite Valentine’s Day dresses
updated the 6 October 2015 à 23:22As we gear up for VDAY, here’s what we’re possibly planning to wear on a romantic night out.
February 14th, the universally recognised day of love unfortunately also brings one too many things to worry about – ideal gifts, romantic dinner plans and of course outfits. So while we were busy putting together gift guides and staycation deals, we took a little breather and decided to pick out our dresses for that night.
Even though most of us went with the fail-proof little black dress ensemble, that’s not to say that you can’t experiment with a tinge of colour – just keep it muted and only have one print at a time. You don’t want your dress to take the attention away from the love that’s floating in the air after all.

Mary Katrantzou two-tone alphabet jacquard dress, approx. SGD2918
“While I don’t usually celebrate Valentine’s Day, this year I will. But instead of going on a date, I’ll be in Bali attending a friend’s wedding – dateless! However, it’s a great excuse to dress up anyway so my ideal frock would be this gorgeous two-toned Mary Katrantzou full-skirted jacquard dress in bold shades of yellow and lilac. I love its intricate fabric embossed with letters, and the silhouette is flattering without being too princess-y. A simple pair of pumps will complete the look and I’ll be ready to go! Who knows, I might get lucky and score a date on the night ;-)”

Topshop Bardot lace dress, approx. SGD163
“For date nights, I prefer to keep my outfit choices a little on the down low – so no bright elaborate prints or clashing colours. However, me being me, it can’t just be a simple black dress. So for Valentine’s Day, I’ll be going for a off-shoulder navy blue lace number – intricate yet flattering at the same time. Accessorise with a gold clutch and black ankle strap heels and you’ll sweep him off his feet once the door opens.”

River Island White zip front skater dress, approx. SGD30

Ted Baker Akla skater’s dress, approx. SGD153
“A little black dress is always my best bet. This sweet dress is appropriate for dinner and post-meal drinks. It’s modest enough with the high neckline but short enough for a night out in style.”

Black sequined dress, Joséphine Bono, approx. SGD250
“I don’t have any special dress planned for Valentine’s Day, but when I’m out for a special dinner/ occasion, I usually opt for a short and flattering black dress. Also, since my favourite one has sequins, I don’t even need to accessorize it up too much for a glam look!”
Laura – Business Development Manager
Flowy blue dress, approx. SGD30
“I don’t get particularly excited over Valentine’s Day so if I had to do something special that evening I’d choose a simple, flowy, light coloured dress. The one in the picture is the one I bought online for only SGD30 and I’m just so happy to have it in my life! It turned out to be one of my favourite ‘safe’ dresses – the ones I’d choose to wear for a semi-casual occasion as it’ll look great with both open toe high heels as well as with flat shoes.”

Zara black lace dress, approx. SGD62
“I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day per se because in Paris it’s pretty much a been-there-done-that kind of occasion. But, for going out on a date night, my latest obsession is my new ‘petite robe noire’ (little black dress). Inspired by Dolce and Gabbana’s show, it’s a dress adorned with black lace. With classic eyeliner and red lipstick, the complete look will be just perfect.”
