Bold & Beautiful: How to wear bold colours
Don’t be afraid to flaunt your colourful outfits this season. Dare to be different – we’ll show you how.
Wearing bright colours is a sure way of exuding confidence, energy and youth. However, it can become a tricky situation, especially if you’re unsure of how to mix and match these colours in a way that isn’t garish and tacky. Fortunately, anyone can wear bold colours – just follow these tips that we have consolidated for you below.
Match with neutrals and darks
We couldn’t emphasise this any further. The best way to flaunt your bright pink purse or that electric red blouse is to pair them with subdued colours that will shy away from the attention the bold colour is attracting. The pop of colour ensures that you look striking, but not over-the-top.
Stay safe with denim
Denim goes well with almost anything, so we’re not surprised it works with bold colours as well. If you’re looking to offset bright colours with a casual, rugged look, denim is the way to go. Simply pair a bold top with your favourite jeans, or throw on a denim shirt over those hot pink trousers you’ve never dared to wear out, and you’re all ready to strut down the walkway.
Experiment with patterns
You don’t always have to limit yourself to an outfit featuring only one bold colour. Colour block or patterned dresses, for example, help to fuse several shocking colours together to create an arresting look. When considering accessories after, however, it might be wise to stick to the colour palette of the bold outfit instead of introducing more colours that might not match.
Stick to one colour
By one colour, we mean one colour family. Try mixing and matching the tints and shades of a colour, for example, red and maroon, to create a go-to outfit for those days you feel like you’re on top of the world.
Play with bright accessories
All you need is a splash of colour over your neutrals to stand out on the streets. Accessories could mean anything from earrings to shoes to belts, so have fun mixing it up. This is also a good way to try wearing bold colours if you’re not looking to go all out just yet.
