Immunonutrition diet: What is it and how to follow it?

It is the ideal diet followed by hospitals but immunonutrition can also aid in stopping that pesky flu, sore throat and cold. We let nutritionist Jean-Paul Curtay explain all about it.

Immunonutrition diet has made ​​its debut in hospitals, by bringing some selected nutrients (eg: acids, fatty acids, vitamins, etc.) to patients to support them in case of any hard knocks to the system (major surgery, acute infections, extensive burns …).

In these periods of extreme stress, the body makes use of all its reserves, leaving patients exhausted. Nutrition can help overcome that hurdle. So far, clinical studies have shown that this method seems to reduce the risk of infection, as well as duration of hospitalization.

“But why should doctors alone have this knowledge to put into practice?” asks Jean-Paul Curtay, author of “Immunonutrition, infection resistance manual for the whole family”. He therefore sought what types of everyday foods could strengthen our immune systems, especially at the beginning of colder periods. We present the results of his findings.
