Baobabs are wanted everywhere in the United Kingdom. In one year, the sales of the baobab fruit exploded by 200%, according to The Mirror, the British daily newspaper. For a very good reason, this fruit could become our new health ally. Thanks to its numerous nutritional qualities, it can help us to rebalance our, sometimes imperfect diets.

Since the English are crazy about it, is it now our turn to succumb to this food as well?

GOOD IN TASTE AND FOR HEALTH

At first sight, the fruit of the baobab resembles a small white pebble. Crunch it (but be careful of the stone inside) and you will immediately change your mind. It has a very attractive, exotic taste, similar to pineapple and melon.

It also has nutritious benefits! It contains more Vitamin C than oranges, more potassium than bananas, more antioxidants than blueberries and more calcium than milk – a real super-fruit indeed. In addition, it contains some natural caffeine for a small, almost instant, boosting effect. This fruit, which grows in Africa is also rich in iron and magnesium, and filled with fibre. Additionally, it contains probiotics and bacteria, which contributes to our overall good health.

BAOBAB IN COOKING

We just have to grate it to obtain a powdery mixture that can be used in cakes or substitute sugar in yoghurts. Alternatively, it can be infused with hibiscus flowers to create a healthy and energising morning drink! Are you ready to adopt baobabs in your diet?
