Something for the culture vultures: here are 5 new art exhibitions to check out this month!

Homecoming
When: 18 January to 11 February 2018, 11AM - 7PM (Tuesdays to Saturdays), 12 - 6PM (Sundays)

Where: Artemis Art Gallery

Since 2013, Artemis Art has been actively participating in international art exhibitions and fairs, shining a light on the work of young, emerging Malaysian artists. The aptly-named 'Homecoming' exhibition features 10 of these promising young local artists, like Ruzzeki Harris, Ajim Juxta, Justin Y, Jasmine Kok and more. Expect art pieces that range from contemporary artwork and ceramic sculptures to finger-painting and tarot card motifs.

Malaysia: 60 Cetera Somethings
When: Till February 2018

Where: Bank Negara Malaysia Museum & Art Gallery

This intriguing exhibition from the Bank Negara Museum and Art Gallery is held in conjunction with Malaysia's 60 years of independence. Visitors can expect to immerse and connect themselves to key artefacts relevant to Malaysian history, which include the 'Nash Rambler Convertible M4442' which Tunku Abdul Rahman drove when he declared the Independence Date. There are also other memorable pieces like bicycles, vintage televisions and citizenship certificates from the era.

‘Joel Andrianomearisoa and Abdoulaye Konate’
When: 2 to 28 February 2018

Where: Richard Koh Fine Art

Richard Koh Fine Art will be showing a two-man art exhibition, featuring 10 stunning textile artworks by African artists Joël Andrianomearisoa & Abdoulaye Konaté. This exhibition is the first show to introduce internationally-reputed African artists to Southeast Asia. Viewed together, both artists' play on the rich symbolism of African colours, concepts and structures lend a a truly unique global and transcultural aesthetic to our shores.

A Tribute to Life

Where: Galeri Prima

'A Tribute to Life' is a photojournalism exhibition hosted by Galeri Prima in conjunction with the KL Biennale. Feast your eyes on the photos on display sourced from the New Straits Times Press' archive - some of which have actually never been published before.

Sense and Sensibility
When: 27 January to 17 February 2018, 1 - 7PM daily

Where: Lostgens' Contemporary Art Space

This group exhibition, featuring 17 artists (both new and seasoned), is an expansion of a group called 'Opposite Abstracts' - a community of abstract artists whose aim is to harness more interest in abstract art and expressions in Malaysia. The Sense and Sensibility exhibition centers around two main view points, which are expressed through their various artworks. If you love abstract art and appreciate any initiatives to stimulate more artistic expression in Malaysia, this one's for you.
