Blame the doctors who offer this method of contraception only to about 23% of young women. Now there are about 43% who\u00a0adopt it when the doctor suggests the contraceptive\u00a0to them. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/medical-news\/probleme-gynecologique-et-si-vous-consultiez-un-osteo-91339.html\">Gynecologist<\/a> Dr. Alain Tamborini sheds light on\u00a0the benefits of IUDs after 40 years of age and the false beliefs that prevent some to adopt it earlier.<\/p> <p class=\"p1\"><em>*\"The Truth Report\" Censuswide \/ Bayer HealthCare, World Contraception Day, September 26, 2015<\/em><\/p> <h2 class=\"p1\"> <span>AFTER AGE 40, SHOULD THE IUD BE ADOPTED RATHER THAN THE PILL?<\/span> <\/h2> <p class=\"p2\">There is no ideal age or medical imperative. It is usually\u00a0fatigue, the everyday stress of taking a pill, and the risk of forgetting that can motivate the change. The IUD, once inserted, can be\u00a0forgotten for five years! A\u00a0majority of women say they regret not having done the procedure\u00a0earlier.<\/p> <p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\" >You\u00a0must not be daunted by the size of the box<\/span> (which contains the device for insertion) when you buy it in pharmacies.<\/p> <h2 class=\"p1\"> <span>WHAT ARE ITS OTHER BENEFITS?<\/span> <\/h2> <p class=\"p2\">There is a reliability of 99%, which increases with age, particularly after age 40. The doctor may remove and deliver a new one, and leave it until menopause. The hormonal IUD, which releases progestin, reduces or prevents the development of the uterine lining, reducing the abundance of rules in 80% of women after six months.\u00a0When\u00a0tolerated, it offers a sense of freedom.\u00a0Plus, you<span class=\"s1\" >\u00a0can consider a pregnancy upon withdrawal.<\/span><\/p> <h2 class=\"p1\"> <span>ARE\u00a0THERE DISADVANTAGES?<\/span> <\/h2> <p class=\"p2\">It does not block ovarian activity (such as the pill that creates artificial blockages). Having a\u00a0cycle that's\u00a0<span class=\"s2\" >long, irregular or experiencing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/natural-healing\/no-more-painful-periods-88266.html\">painful periods<\/a>? The<\/span> IUD will not change anything. For long and heavy periods, avoid copper IUDs which may increase risk of infection. The insertion, carried out during a consultation is more or less bearable, fast and without anesthesia. If you're nervous,\u00a0<span class=\"s1\" >you can take a painkiller\u00a0before the procedure. Bleeding<\/span><br \/> and contractions can occur for several days.<\/p> <h2 class=\"p1\"> <span>CAN WE ASK FOR IT EVEN IF WE NEVER HAD\u00a0A CHILD?<\/span> <\/h2> <p class=\"p2\">Yes, but technically it may be more painful for a woman whose cervix was not dilated by pregnancy, or who gave birth by caesarean section. Before this, it was not recommended for women without <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/lifelove\/decoding\/habits-behaviour\/testimonials-mothers-unable-let-go-youngest-child-120246.html\">children<\/a> because of assumed higher risk of genital infection and therefore subsequent infertility. Investigations have however shown that the risk of infection is not related to the IUD, but behaviour. It is therefore recommended for\u00a0women with stable sexual lives (with a single partner).<\/p> <h2 class=\"p1\"> <span>CAN YOUR PARTNER FEEL IT?<\/span> <\/h2> <p class=\"p2\">In principle, he does not. It is places\u00a0in the uterine cavity; comprised of\u00a0only two very thin walls.\u00a0If your\u00a0partner feels it, which is rare, contact your\u00a0gynecologist.<\/p> <h2 class=\"p1\"> <span>ONCE IN PLACE, WILL IT MOVE OR GO MISSING?<\/span> <\/h2> <p class=\"p2\">An IUD does not move, even if you lose weight or are agitated on a vibrating platform (such as an excercise machine)! During the regular consultation, a month after installation, and then once a year, the doctor will check it\u00a0position.<\/p> <h2> <span><strong>NOT RECOMMENDED FOR:<\/strong><\/span> <\/h2> <p class=\"p1\">Those with infections, history of pelvic inflammatory disease, STDs or abnormality of the uterus (polyp, fibroma, incompetent cervix).
