Foundations are the holy grail products for most women. Not only does it even out the skin tone and provide coverage, most foundations these days are infused with beneficial skin ingredients. From serum to teint infusion foundations, these coverage products are packing a punch with their buildable coverage and lightweight feel.<\/a> However as with any makeup product, mistakes are there to be made. Here are 5 of the common foundation mistakes that you should avoid.<\/p>

USING A WRONG SHADE<\/span> <\/h2>

What may seem like the right shade in the store may turn out to be a disappointment when applied the next day. To avoid looking like an\u00a0oompa loompa, test the shade of the foundation around along your jaw line. What if you're already wearing makeup when entering the store? Simply use a wet wipe or makeup remover provided in store to remove part of the makeup on your jawline. Apply a little foundation on the area and blend upwards. Instead of deciding on the spot as the lighting in the store might differ from natural lighting, step out of the store and do what most of us do best - click a selfie. This way you're able to check if the tested shade has blended well into your skin or leaves a noticeable streak. If there's one area you should never test foundation on, it is your wrist as it is not of the same shade as your face tone.<\/p>

USING FOUNDATION ALL OVER THE FACE<\/span> <\/h2>

It is a common mistake made by many to apply foundation all over the face. Foundation is only needed for areas which are in need of coverage such as blemishes, age spots, area of redness.<\/a> Applying foundation all over the face runs the risk of having a cake face. Not only are you wasting a lot of product, a heavier layer of foundation may clog your pores. Instead apply a lighter layer on certain areas for a natural looking canvas. Blend well to avoid any foundation streaks.<\/p>

JUMPING INTO FOUNDATION WITHOUT LETTING SKINCARE DRY<\/span> <\/h2>

It is essential to allow your skincare products such as emulsions, moisturizers, sunscreen protection, etc to dry well before going in with your foundation. As the skincare products tend to be slightly more enriching, layering foundation over it might cause the ingredients to separate resulting in a patchy looking canvas. You might notice your foundation not layering evenly. A rule of thumb is to allow your skincare to dry and absorb well into the skin for at least 3-5\u00a0minutes before applying foundation. If you're short on time, simply take a tissue napkin and blot your face gently.<\/p>

USING THE WRONG FORMULA FOR YOUR SKIN<\/span> <\/h2>

Ever wondered why that highly raved about foundation on social media did not work for you? It could have to do with the formula not being suitable for your skin type. For individuals with drier skin types<\/a>, it is advisable to choose a foundation with a radiant finish to keep your skin looking hydrated. Using a matte foundation might cause the dry patches to appear more prominent.<\/p>

PACKING ON TOO MUCH POWDER<\/span> <\/h2>

Gone are the days where we have to set our whole foundation with a powder matching our skin tones. These days foundations are infused with more pigments and require the slightest touch of powder to set. A translucent powder is recommended so as to not take away from the finish of the foundation. We are loving how some foundations dry from a liquid to powder finish allowing us to skip one step in the routine.<\/p>
