It's\u00a0always a go-to look for any and every occasion, from the star-studded glamour days of Marilyn Monroe<\/a> to the new-world effortlessness of Lupita Nyong'o<\/a>. But vastly different from the crisp, boldly-lined crimson pouts we see too often on Instagram by self-proclaimed MUAs (that's 'makeup artists' to you) ever wondered how\u00a0the A-listers\u00a0perfect their signature, seamless red lips? We show you how.<\/p>

IT STARTS WITH THE BASE<\/span> <\/h2>

A bold lip always looks best with glowing, spotless\u00a0skin. Cheat a clear complexion with a mid- to full-coverage foundation and make sure to blend the formula over the edge of the natural lip line. This way, you can start with a clean base and trace your natural lip line, or have the freedom to draw a new one - over the original\u00a0lip line for a more, dare we say, Kylie Jenner<\/strong> effect, or inside the lip line to make lips look thinner.<\/p>

DRAW THE LINE<\/span> <\/h2>

As mentioned, trace your preferred lip shape carefully and bring the colour towards the centre of the lips. Filling the whole lip is optional, as\u00a0the key here is to have a lip liner the same shade as your lipstick of the night. Use fingers to pat the colour into any crevices you might have missed.<\/p>

PACK IT ON<\/span> <\/h2>

Here's the fun part\u00a0- applying your lip colour! Satin and matte finishes work best for this technique. Direct your tube or applicator to the centre of the lips and carefully glide the formula on about halfway out to the edge. Blend the colour lightly towards the outer edge of the lips with your ring finger to create a nice transition between\u00a0lip colour and lip liner. If needed, concentrate more of that red in the centre of the mouth and finish off with a careful, light smudging at the outermost edge of your lips. This is key to blurring the line between skin and makeup.<\/p>
