Based on this observation, doctor, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/find-zen-5-best-yoga-places-singapore-95406.html\">yoga<\/a> teacher and creator of postural respiratory approach\u00a0workshops, Dr. Bernadette de Gasquet* has devised a series of exercises with just the\u00a0good old chair. A great idea, since exercise always has us making up excuses for it.<\/p> <h2> <span>WHILE SITTING IN YOUR\u00a0CHAIR<\/span> <\/h2> <p><em>\"Between the transport, meals and work, we spend\u00a0more and more time sitting. Because of that,\u00a0we tend to form a habit of slouching,\"<\/em> she notes. The result: the abdominals are strained, we breathe and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/say-goodbye-to-a-difficult-digestion-88257.html#post-88257\">digest food poorly<\/a> because the diaphragm, stomach and intestines are sandwiching each other. As we tend to cross our legs, venous return and blood circulation are also less efficient; it risks an asymmetry in the hips and tension in the neck and upper back. But properly used, a chair is a great tool to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/exercises-improve-arm-definition-87512.html\">build muscles<\/a>, stretch and tone from head to toe. <em>\"Go on taking the right sitting position: you have to sit and mimic 'the Egyptian', which is to\u00a0neither bend nor slouch, legs straight and squared, elbows or forearms resting on the thighs or the table. Also\u00a0stop\u00a0yourself from slouching at all times.\u00a0Vary the exercises - abs, glutes, preventing sores (sore neck, heavy legs etc.) - so\u00a0you can\u00a0alternate according to what you want to relieve for the day.\"<\/em><\/p> <p>Here are five\u00a0easy ones to remember.
