Few seventeen year-olds get invitations to appear on the The Daily Show<\/strong>, fewer are awarded a Nobel Peace Prize<\/strong>, but all too many have suffered the same fate as teenage activist, Malala Yousafzai. And in the\u00a0upcoming documentary<\/a>, He Named Me Malala<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Davis Guggenheim, we relive and celebrate\u00a0her\u00a0journey from the quiet town of Swat Valley to the international stage.<\/p>

Hailing from an area in Northwestern Pakistan where Taliban forces have banned females from attending school<\/a>, Malala was shot at\u00a0close range by a gunman for her active campaigning to get girls to school.\u00a0The event sparked widespread outrage, with United Nations envoy Gordon Brown launching a petition in her honour, eventually leading to the establishment of Pakistan's first Right to Education Bill<\/strong>.<\/p>

Given all the outpouring of attention on and support for\u00a0her, Malala might as well be the world's most famous teenager<\/a>. But that's just it. She is\u00a0a teenager, a fact that many gloss over, but one that is excellently brought out in the documentary. We see Malala's\u00a0youngest brother playfully\u00a0confessing\u00a0that 'she is little bit naughty...just little bit', followed by shots of her\u00a0browsing\u00a0Instagram and complaining about schoolwork, just like any other teen.<\/p>

The film's\u00a0title\u00a0stands\u00a0testament to her famous statement 'my father only gave me the name Malala, he didn't make me Malala', where Malala's namesake is\u00a0a girl who was killed for speaking out.\u00a0Given all that she has been through, we're sure she\u00a0embodies\u00a0incredible strength and perseverance<\/a>. Yet behind all that, we find just a warm, humorous girl who likes to have fun. And\u00a0like any good story, it is equally important to see\u00a0both sides.<\/p>

My Name is Malala<\/strong> will be released in cinemas around Singapore on February 25th, 2016.<\/em><\/p>
