The housing estate was in fact one of the oldest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/lifelove\/entertainment-lifelove\/explore-your-creative-side-with-these-fun-courses-in-singapore-86741.html\">in Singapore,<\/a> established in a bid to offer a home to Singaporeans en-masse. While many may have moved out of the neighbourhood in favour of swanky, modern condominiums and estates, in recent years, the opposite has been true with more people returning and re-discovering the place's beautiful old charm.<\/p> <p>So much so that the neighbourhood has become a magnet for hipster culture, what with the opening of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/food\/hot-spots\/top-6-places-feed-chocolate-addiction-73866.html\"> rustic-looking cafes, <\/a>male\u00a0grooming salons, independent bookshops and quirky stores with kitschy\u00a0finds setting up home base there.
