{"id":341747,"date":"2015-03-30T10:35:28","date_gmt":"2015-03-30T02:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/uncategorized-hk\/alzheimer-mind-hybrid-diet-341747.html"},"modified":"2015-03-30T10:35:28","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T02:35:28","slug":"alzheimer-mind-hybrid-diet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/hk\/health-hk\/medical-news-hk\/alzheimer-mind-hybrid-diet-341747.html","title":{"rendered":"Alzheimer's: Two times less likely to develop the disease with MIND"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/03\/semaine-cerveau-750x4101.png\"><span style=\"display: block;\" class=\"wrap-img\" id=\"wrap-img-84134\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" itemprop=\"thumbnailUrl\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-84134 img-responsive \" src=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2015\/03\/semaine-cerveau-750x4101-625x342.png\" alt=\"semaine-cerveau-750x410\" width=\"625\" height=\"342\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/p> <p>According to the study published in <em>Alzheimer\u2019s &amp; Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer\u2019s Association, <\/em>a new diet scheme called <strong>MIND<\/strong> can significantly reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's.<\/p> <p>Now it's no secret that following a diet plan for health or weight reasons is easier said than done but that's not a concern with this new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/eat-like-diva-beyonce-launches-vegan-meal-plan-72083.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nutrition plan<\/a>.<\/p> <p><em>\u201cOne of the more exciting things about this is that people who adhered even moderately to the MIND diet had a reduction in their risk for AD,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Dr.\u00a0Martha Clare Morris <\/strong>o<strong>f Rush University Medical Center<\/strong> in the U.S., the lead researcher to the study. <em>\u201cI think that will motivate people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>  <h2> <span>Nutrition vs Alzheimer's<\/span> <\/h2> <p>MIND, which stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay,\u00a0<strong>claims to slash risks of Alzheimer's by 35% in those who moderately adhere to it and 53% to those who are committed<\/strong>.<\/p> <p>As the name suggests, MIND is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/get-lean-5-diet-plans-follow-2015-64914.html#post-64914\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a hybrid of\u00a0two diets<\/a>. Both\u00a0are recognized for their health benefits. On one side is the Mediterranean diet, which is good for the heart, brain and longevity. Meanwhile,\u00a0DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), is considered today as the dietary benchmark for the prevention of high blood pressure, and thus, cardiovascular disorders.<\/p> <p>The study involved volunteers already participating in the ongoing Rush Memory and Aging Project (MAP) that\u00a0began in 1997 among senior citizens. As many as 923 participants filled in the optional 'food frequency questionnaire' between\u00a02004 to 2013.\u00a0A total of 144 cases of AD were recorded.<\/p>  <h2> <span>The diet<\/span> <\/h2> <p>MIND is\u00a0easier to follow than two of its predecessors because it's less restrictive. It includes 10 food groups that are<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/healthy-eating-what-is-in-a-nutritious-diet-81659.html#post-81659\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> good for the brain<\/a> namely green leafy vegetables, other veggies, nuts, berries (especially blueberries), beans, whole grains, fish, poultry, olive oil <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/medical-news\/magic-potion-drinking-one-glass-wine-makes-beautiful-78209.html#post-78209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">and wine<\/a>. To make the most out of the diet, it's recommended to\u00a0consume a daily dose of\u00a03 servings of whole grains,\u00a0vegetable salad and a glass of wine. Snacks made of oilseeds are also good. Poultry and berries are to be consumed twice a week, while fish at least once a week.<\/p> <p>There are 5 bad food groups, including\u00a0red meats, butter and margarine, cheese, pastries and sweets, and fast food or fried food.
