It contains a lot of glucose but does not have a sweet taste. These sugars are\u00a0referred to\u00a0as\u00a0\"slow\" because of the way they continuously diffuse energy in the body. In contrast, simple sugars found in sweets and some sports refreshments give you immediate but momentary energy.<\/p> <p>In simpler terms, starch is broken down rather slowly but it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/get-fit-top-10-fitness-apps-63941.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fuels (essential) energy<\/a> for our body.<\/p>  <h2> <span>Why the bad reputation\u00a0?<\/span> <\/h2> <p>We frequently hear that consuming starch equals to failing your diet, in part because starch has more calories than protein. But don't forget that even during <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/female-fitness-youtube-accounts-following-68557.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weight loss<\/a>, the\u00a0body still needs to function. Keep eating starch but choose the right ones that don't boost the sugar level in blood and promote fat storage.<\/p> <p>Here are three pointers to choose the best starch:<\/p> <p>1. Trade your white breads for full-starch, fiber-loaded foods such as bread and brown rice, semi or whole wheat pasta.\u00a0This is the best way to be full\u00a0quickly and eat much smaller quantities.<\/p> <p>2. Portion control \u2014\u00a0If you are trying to\u00a0lose weight, try reducing\u00a0the quantity little by little. Fill\u00a0\u00bc of your plate with protein, 1\/4 starch, and half vegetables.<\/p> <p>3.
