\"shutterstock_109901174-615x410\"<\/span><\/a>People have been on the fence for the past 15 years when it comes to tanning beds<\/strong>. Dermatologists\u00a0have been raising their concerns\u00a0about the health risks, and campaigned for these machines\u00a0to be put to bed.<\/p>

A\u00a0survey by French magazine\u00a060 millions de consommateurs<\/em>\u00a0revealed that a majority of\u00a0tanning centres\u00a0do not abide by the rules and regulations, including informing customers about the potential harms of these beds.<\/p>

Yikes! Ladies you better be careful!<\/p>

Should we ban tanning beds?<\/span> <\/h2>

\"Skin cancer can be induced\u00a0after chronic exposure to sunlight<\/a>. It can develop\u00a0with or without sunburn,\" explains\u00a0the French Union of Dermatologists.\u00a0Often presented as a simple, harmless and effective way\u00a0of tanning, the typical tanning bed emits UVA, which\u00a0does not cause sunburn. In contrast, what\u00a0we\u00a0are exposed to when\u00a0walking in the sun<\/a> or suntanning on the beach<\/a> is another ultraviolet ray called UVB. \"But some scientists have demonstrated an association between UVA irradiation and malignant melanoma, the most serious skin cancer. Exposure to UVA can also\u00a0cause premature skin aging and damage to the immune system of the skin,\" they added.<\/p>

The\u00a0International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC<\/a>) has also labelled tanning beds as one of the most hazardous cancer-causing agents. Those under 30 years old could face a 75% increase in risk of developing skin cancer!<\/p>

So far there are two countries that have had enough of these tanning machines. As a country fiercely exposed to sunlight with one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, our neighbour Australia had just banned tanning beds from the start of the year. They are the second\u00a0after Brazil.<\/p>

We doubt that Singapore would be the third seeing\u00a0whitening skincare<\/a> is a major best seller like in most Asian countries. If you are looking for that exotic bronze skin, why not try a different approach<\/a>?<\/p>
