Whenever we're searching for an answer to something, it's instinctive to open up Google.com and start typing on one of the largest search engines in the world. In 2014, Google<\/strong> clocked trillions of searches - which comes as no surprise - but what appeared at the top of those searches may cause some to sit up.<\/p>

In Singapore, the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines<\/strong> flight MH370 proved to be the top most searched item. Families of the victims onboard desperately awaited news and others attempted to keep up-to-date as the airplane eventually got shrouded in conspiracy theories.<\/p>

As for the next most searched topics, following closely behind was the World Cup 2014 <\/a>and the greatly anticipated launch of Apple's iPhone 6 - Singaporeans do love their gadgets.<\/p>

Globally, however, the trends skewed slightly from Singapore's, with the late Robin Williams<\/a> landing the 1st spot (instead of 5th in Singapore). The comedian and actor passed away - rather untimely - in August, causing heartbroken fans to look to Google for ways to remember the star by, while also searching for his much-loved movies to re-watch.<\/p>

Within the top 10 searches worldwide, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge <\/a>also\u00a0managed to score big on the search engine as celebrities passed on challenges to down themselves in a bucket of ice cold water to raise awareness and aid in research of\u00a0Lou Gehrig's disease. Over USD100 million has been raised just from the challenge.<\/p>

Ebola<\/a>, Malaysia Airlines and ISIS<\/strong> also dominated the search box as people scurried to look for answers on the web as\u00a0the unfortunate events unfolded day by day.<\/p>

In short, while the world and Singapore were kept contented and awed with fancy gadgets, buckets of ice, athletes on the field and oddly\u00a0addictive games, we were still shocked and dismayed at the thousands of deaths worldwide caused by militants and diseases.<\/p>

Now to wait for 2015 to reveal itself on Google.<\/p>
