These upcoming fashion designers from three of Singapore's fashion design schools - NAFA<\/strong>, LASALLE College of the Arts<\/strong>\u00a0and Raffles Design Institute<\/strong> - have\u00a0paved\u00a0and dare I say, earned\u00a0their\u00a0way into the laudable\u00a0Digital Fashion Week 2014<\/a>.\u00a0During the show the\u00a0audience\u2019s attention was captured by the variety of showcases that these eleven, young and talented designers presented.<\/p>

Each designer had few but exclusive\u00a0designs to display with their unique aesthetic. Most of the designers showcased designs that would have been in a couture line, where intricacy is key. However, each designer had own theme, taking for example,\u00a0Hafizah\u00a0<\/strong>from LASALLE College of the Arts. She characterised her designs to reflect her culture by adding stunning modernized turbans as accessories to her runway selection.\u00a0The inspiration\u00a0behind\u00a0a few of the\u00a0Autumn Winter 2014<\/a>\u00a0collections\u00a0actually came from the nuances of each designer's culture and tradition.<\/p>

With a colour palette of\u00a0black, orange, pink and white,\u00a0the show seemed to have a life of its own where the overall theme and rhythm of the show seemed to blend with the models and select pieces from various collections.\u00a0To elaborate further,\u00a0Shi Wen\u2019s<\/strong> designs had a very couture feel, by 80's standards, to her black and white collection.\u00a0<\/p>

In addition, not\u00a0only did the apparel pieces catch the audiences\u2019 eye\u00a0but\u00a0so did the accessories<\/a> that were shown on the runway.\u00a0The eye-catching pieces included Kok\u00a0Sheng Kit\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0'disturbed'\u00a0<\/em>collection where there was a display of multicoloured pieces along with fused felt.<\/p>

Another highlight of this show was the use of mismatch colours combined with a formal yet unique way of displaying each designers vision\u00a0on the models.\u00a0Each designer used their theme to reflect an image of themselves and their perception of how they see fashion in today\u2019s world.\u00a0<\/p>

Another designer\u2019s work that enthralled us\u00a0along with the appreciative audience was\u00a0Grace\u00a0Frederika\u00a0Tjhai\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>ready to wear sports-inspired designs. Her pieces\u00a0were based on a more casual look that was supported by a lot more volume, which was different than the other designers' couture feel.\u00a0<\/p>

If you're not convinced yet to make a beeline for the door\u00a0<\/span>to pick up some pieces from this show, here are a few more thoughts that may just give you the nudge you need. The emerging Singaporean designers have worked on these showcased designs as part of their final year in school. Each piece that was displayed on the runway was followed by appreciative remarks\u00a0<\/span>from the audience. Judging by the sounds and expressions from the audience, the show was a success, where raw talent certainly recognised. These young and upcoming designers have certainly created a niche for themselves - way to go!<\/p>
