The festive season is nearing\u00a0and makeup collections seem to be multiplying by the minute. At the forefront of it all\u00a0are glitter top coats - looking very attractive in their bottles but are sometimes tricky to grasp. Fret not, as we have found the perfect way for you to tackle them and sparkle like stars, from head to toe - or nails<\/a>.<\/p>

Here\u2019s some advice from\u00a0Guerlain Institut\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0Paris-based beauty expert.<\/p>

How to apply glitter top coat?<\/span> <\/h2>

Apply a transparent base coat to protect, smooth and possibly whiten the nails. 2 coats are needed to create a good base and for the sparkle to stand out.<\/p>

Expert Tip:<\/strong>\u00a0Focus on darker shades<\/a> when you pick golden or silver<\/a> sparkles. Make sure your base coat is perfectly dry before moving to the next step. The recommended waiting time is 20 minutes for the surface to completely dry. The layers underneath need about 1 hour and a half to solidify.<\/p>

To apply the glitter top coat, the technique will depend on the look you choose. To follow the current trend, paint only one nail.<\/p>

Put the glittery top coat as you would a classic nail polish<\/a>, going from the base to the tip.<\/p>

For a \u201cmeteorite\u201d look, with a lot more glitter, you can take more of the sparkly elements on the brush and tap gently on your nail.<\/p>

Avoid over layering the top coat as it will weaken the manicure and make it peel off faster.<\/p>

It\u2019s also useless to add a transparent top coat.<\/p>

How to remove glitter top coat?<\/span> <\/h2>

Take 10 cotton pads, soak them with nail polish remover and place them on your nails like bandages.<\/p>

Keep them on for a minute to peel off the top coat. Push gently and swipe on the external part of the nail. Don\u2019t forget to wash your hands carefully and to moisturize<\/a> them.<\/p>

You can also use some specific oil to nourish the cuticle and start over with a new manicure right away!<\/p>

Thing to avoid:<\/span> <\/h2>

Don't scrub! Even if some nail polishes can be persistent, keep calm and don\u2019t give in to scrubbing with a file or any other blunt tool. This would damage the keratin and weaken your nails.<\/p>
