If you go to see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/lifelove\/coaching-lifelove\/these-grandchildren-sore-than-lon-dare-not-say-22517.html#post-22517\">your doctor<\/a> for treatment, there is a good chance that you'll leave with a prescription of paracetamol.\u00a0It is indeed THE drug that is recommended for this kind of pain. but there is a small problem - there has never really been a legitimate study that shows that paracetamol <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/medical-news\/can-we-use-antibiotics-to-treat-back-pain-785.html#post-785\">relieves back pain<\/a>.<\/p> <h2 style=\"font-weight: 500;color: black\"> <span>Can back pain be healed with\u00a0placebos?<\/span> <\/h2> <p style=\"color: #333333\">An Australian study published in the prestigious journal\u00a0<em>The Lancet<\/em>\u00a0on Thursday, July 24, has (finally) given us some insight on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/medical-news\/que-se-passe-t-il-si-femme-prend-du-viagra-28763.html\">this treatmen<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/medical-news\/que-se-passe-t-il-si-femme-prend-du-viagra-28763.html\">t<\/a>.\u00a0The researchers conducted a study on\u00a0more than 1,600 patients suffering from back pain, all of which were divided into 3 groups.\u00a0Members of the first group were given 4g of paracetamol\u00a0daily for 4 weeks.Those of the second category had the right to take the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/hot-benefits-bikram-yoga-18042.html#post-18042\">medication <\/a>when they feel it is necessary.\u00a0Those in\u00a0the last group were just given a placebo.\u00a0All participants were given advice\u00a0to relieve their pain and were followed for 3 months.\u00a0Eventually, scientists realized that there was no significant difference between the three groups, whether the intensity of pain, quality of sleep or time necessary for recovery (17 days for paracetamol group vs.\u00a016 days for the other two groups).\u00a0In short, you will not get better faster\u00a0by swallowing a pill full of active substances rather than a neutral tablet. The only good news, both have little or no side effects.<\/p> <p style=\"color: #333333\">The authors of this study encourage doctors to reconsider the universal recommendation of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/medical-news\/les-medicaments-soignent-mieux-les-hommes-que-les-femmes-33009.html#post-33009\">prescribing<\/a>\u00a0paracetamol as first-line treatment of low back pain, even though they acknowledge that further studies are needed to confirm their findings.<\/p> <p style=\"color: #333333\"><em>Maureen Diament<\/em><\/p>  ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paracetamol is the standard treatment for lower back pain - but a recent study shows that it may be as effective as a placebo...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":54,"featured_media":33879,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_yoast_wpseo_metadesc":"Suffering from back pain or strain?
