A VISUAL SURVEY AROUND THE WORLD<\/span> <\/h2>

American by birth, freelance journalist Esther Honig decided to compare the perception of beauty in different countries. Her\u00a0project, \"Before & After\", highlights the cultural differences that dictate the perception of beauty<\/a> and the role\u00a0of software in the construction of the 'perfect' female<\/a>.\u00a0To\u00a0do this, she sent her portrait\u00a0-\u00a0non-retouched, no makeup, hair tied in a bun and bare shoulders -\u00a0on gray background\u00a0to\u00a0tens of retouching pros around\u00a0the world. Via exchange services platforms such as Fiverr, she came into contact with forty specialists in more than 20 countries. From Sri Lanka to Ukraine, The Philippines<\/a> and Kenya - she asked these experts to improve her portrait and\u00a0make her \"look\u00a0beautiful.\" This was her method\u00a0to compare\u00a0the standards of\u00a0beauty prevailing in each country.<\/p>

THE MIRACLES OF PHOTOSHOP<\/span> <\/h2>

Unsurprisingly, the reporter received back very different images. From the\u00a0eyebrows thickness<\/a>, hair\u00a0and\u00a0makeup style to complexion\u00a0and\u00a0eye colour, face shape...\u00a0everything seems to have\u00a0been transformed\u00a0under\u00a0the magical wand of\u00a0Photoshop - and in some case, the changes were dramatic. Ironically, the most retouched portrait or at least one of the most spectacular ones is the one made in her own country, the United States. The end result is\u00a0-\u00a0you will agree when looking through\u00a0the slideshow above\u00a0-\u00a0very far from the original, and somehow entertaining.<\/p>
