Paris, arguably the world\u2019s fashion capital, came to Singapore in all its glory on the 8th<\/sup>\u00a0day of Singapore Fashion Week 2013 at Marina Bay Sands The Shoppes.<\/p>

The day, which was dedicated to French fashion, definitely had a unique ambiance which was reflected not only by the beautiful creations shown on the runway on Thursday October 17.<\/p>

In fact, the day itself started with a cultural and educational introduction about the birth of Haute Couture and a demonstration of why Paris is still embracing designers from all over the world who dare to dream and create not just clothes but wearable pieces of art in form of Haute Couture.<\/p>

The shows started with six selected graduating French students from the prestigious Atelier Chardon Savard<\/a> in Paris.<\/p>

Their collections showed diversity, creativity and some intricate technical skills which promise a great future. Our highlight was Nofar Gabrielli\u2019s \u2018Colourful Men\u2019 collection which featured beautifully-tailored suits in clashing colours and prints, which in fact are all knitted to resemble tribal patterns.<\/p>

Haute Couturier Alexis Mabille<\/a>\u2019s show came next, showing elegant silhouettes and dresses which flowed as the models walked the runway. We loved the soft palette, light material and beautiful craftsmanship demonstrated in this collection.<\/p>

Up next was On Aura Tout Vu<\/a> which was a mix of the label\u2019s AW14 and SS13 collections. From real beetle wings (yes we still want them!) used as embellishments on dresses in the former, to neon-coloured plexiglass creating skeletal connectors and shapes... the whole show demonstrated a young and fresh take on Haute Couture. It was a perfect example of art meets fashion.<\/p> <\/div>

Closing the night was Julien\u00a0Fourni\u00e9<\/a> (watch this space for our exclusive interview with the designer) who showed a more sombre collection inspired by Italian painter and sculptor, Modigliani. The verdict: a wearable box of chocolates! The brown hues which dominated the runways were perfectly elegant yet unexpected and complemented the edgy shapes created in the dresses. We simply loved the discreet rebellious attitude shown in every piece without taking over the elegance.<\/p>
