The world's most prestigious film festival \u2013 which also happens to be the most fashionable \u2013 has just ended. And as much as we enjoyed all the movie buzz, talent and awards which Cannes is known for, we were even more thrilled by the fashion choices of some of the stars.<\/p>

Of course, it\u2019s all about glamour and there was no shortage of Haute Couture-clad actresses - especially from Asia like China\u2019s newcomer\u00a0Zhang Yuqi whose daring and dramatic choices have left us in awe.<\/p>

But truth be told, we are kind of over that old Hollywood glamour and always looking for a fresh take on couture. Thankfully, not all the looks were predictable and we were treated to a few interesting frocks which took glamour to another level. Namely, classic with a twist.<\/p>

Yes, those elaborate and impossibly elegant Elie Saab gowns are to die-for and actresses like China\u2019s Zhang Ziyi<\/a> and Fan Bing Bing<\/a> have done them justice \u2013 but the looks which stood out for us were a little more fresh and less de ja vu. The top three being:<\/p>

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior Resort 2014 \u2013 at the Blood Ties<\/em> premiere:<\/strong><\/p>

As the face of the coveted Miss Dior handbag, French actress Marion Cotillard wore Dior as expected, yet perhaps an unexpected choice of gown.<\/p>

It was a daring choice and that\u2019s why we love it!<\/p>

The pleated multi-coloured dress with mainly white, yellow, black and blue panels fitted the petite actress perfectly and unlike full gowns, its midi length in the front meant she is not swamped by it yet the longer length in the back ensured it is dressy enough.<\/p>

Teamed with a pointed-toe black Dior pumps and a dramatic updo, Chopard diamond cuff and earrings \u2013 this slightly risky look was perfection and she pulled it off beautifully.<\/p>

Zoe Saldana in Valentino Fall 2013 \u2013 at the Blood Ties<\/em> premiere:<\/strong><\/p>

The stunning American actress always takes a risk on the red carpet \u2013 and this time it paid off!<\/p>

We love her brocade gown which looks like it was made especially for her; the colour complements her skin, the fit is perfect and she carries it with grace.<\/p>

Her beauty look was like the gown, regal but with a laid back edge \u2013 with natural makeup, barely-there jewellery and swept back hair.<\/p>

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior \u2013 The Hunger Games: Catching<\/em> fire party:<\/strong><\/p>

Another big Dior moment for this young talented actress. Perhaps not as grandiose as when she won the Oscar in a majestic gown \u2013 making even tripping on stairs look chic \u2013 but her choice was also spot on this time and showed much of her willingness to experiment with fashion.<\/p>

The strapless off-white midi dress, draped on one side with a printed artwork of Andy Warhol struck a perfect balance between classic and fun and was suitable for the occasion.<\/p>

But what we love more about this look is the styling with bright pink Jimmy Choo pumps that showed a little fun edge and gave us a break from all the boring monochromes out there.<\/p>
