However, we should probably also be scrutinising the packaging in which our meals come in. Why? According to a study carried out by the College of Science of the University of Notre Dame in the United States and published in the American <a href=\"http:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1021\/acs.estlett.6b00435\"><span class=\"s1\" ><em>Environmental Science and Technology<\/em><\/span><\/a><span class=\"s2\" > journal<\/span>, it is suggested that the <strong>packaging of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/id\/food-id\/dishing-out-id\/fb-news-id\/foodpanda-study-singapore-eating-habits-242699.html\" target=\"_blank\">burgers and other fast foods<\/a> like French fries could contain traces of fluorinated substances<\/strong>, often used to make waterproof clothing or coat non-stick pots and pans.<\/p> <p class=\"p1\">To reach this conclusion, researchers analysed approximately 400 food packaging items (e.g. pizza boxes, soda cups, greaseproof bags, burger boxes, etc) from 27 fast food chains, including McDonald\u2019s<em>, <\/em>Burger King and Starbucks. The results revealed the presence of perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in most containers.<\/p> <p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"display: block;\" class=\"wrap-img\" id=\"wrap-img-238294\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-238294 img-responsive  size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2017\/03\/ez-2016-00435z_0002.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"288\" \/><\/span><\/p> <p class=\"p1\">The problem is, these toxic chemicals are in direct contact with the food you end up eating.<\/p> <h2 class=\"p3\"> <span>CANCERS, DECREASED FERTILITY, THYROID DISEASES...<\/span> <\/h2> <p class=\"p1\">\"<em>It's a very persistent chemical. It enters the bloodstream, it stays there and accumulates. There are diseases that are correlative to it,<\/em>\u201d says Graham Peaslee, Professor of Experimental Nuclear Physics, who initiated the tests.<\/p> <p class=\"p1\">Various studies have already shown that the health risks associated with direct exposure to fluorite are numerous and significant. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atsdr.cdc.gov\/substances\/toxsubstance.asp?toxid=38\"><span class=\"s1\" >US Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease<\/span><\/a>, PFCs could be causing <strong>immune dysfunction and growth problems in children, as well as thyroid disease, decreased fertility, and even cancer<\/strong>.<\/p> <p class=\"p1\">For now, the authors of the study are
