It might just be time to put\u00a0down those calculators, and jump for joy because those days of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/on-my-plate\/healthy-eating\/calories-in-mooncakes-275185.html#item=1\">calorie<\/a> counting is over, ladies.<\/p> <p>A new study, published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jama\/article-abstract\/2673150?redirect=true\">Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA),<\/a> simply encourages people to eat foods with <strong>less added sugar and less refined grains such as whole foods,\u00a0 rather than restrict carbohydrates, fats or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/on-my-plate\/healthy-eating\/low-calorie-starbucks-272974.html#item=1\">caloric limits at all.<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p> <p>The findings? Participants lost 11 to 13 pounds within a year of this lifestyle change. That\u2019s right, without calorie limits or targets; just eating good wholesome food - and plenty of it.<\/p> <p>Participants were encouraged to eat foods with <strong>minimum processing, refinement, or additives<\/strong>, whether it be vegetables, meat or carbs. They were divided into two groups that were eating lower fat or lower carbohydrates, both showed positive weight loss results irrespective of their genetics or predisposition to foods. And no - diet cokes or low-fat desserts<em> do not<\/em> count as whole foods or good foods \u2013 they are still <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/healthy-practices\/physical-exercise\/cny-snacking-many-calories-favourite-treats-297264.html#item=1\">heavily processed to taste that way<\/a>.<\/p> <p>The new approach to food intake has been described by researchers as a <strong>\u201chigh quality <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/on-my-plate\/healthy-eating\/blood-type-diet-work-285108.html#item=1\">diet.<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> Eating food that is high in nutritional value because it hasn\u2019t been tampered with much was the aim of the game. They highlighted this proved the <strong>need to focus on quality rather than quantity<\/strong> of food eaten.<\/p> <p>The cyclical system of counting calories, losing weight, then gaining weight when you gain old habits, is one that can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariefranceasia.com\/health\/on-my-plate\/diets\/salads-lose-weight-248575.html#item=7\">make many of us miserable<\/a>.
