The illuminator - it's a little magic wand makeup artists swear by! Learn how to properly use this tool from expert makeup artist, Amélie Salomon.

It's simple - to the world of makeup, illuminator is the equivalent of a magician's wand! No exaggeration there. This sublime indispensable tool highlights the face in volumes and conceals certain features such as the double chin. A condition of course is to use it properly. It’s not that easy because most tend to apply the product rather poorly.

HOW TO CHOOSE IT

You have to take a shade lighter than your skin tone. Simply drop a small amount on your hand and bring it closer to the face to compare. Don’t rely on colour indications on the packaging.

WHERE TO PUT IT

The rule is simple: place the product at the points where light hits on the curved parts of the face. These areas are usually on the forehead, bridge of the nose, cheekbones, chin, under the brow bone and eyelid. Other areas you can highlight: the outline of the mouth and the inner corner of the eye. The idea is to attract attention!

The beauty mistake to avoid: placing the illuminator on an area that you don’t wish to highlight. Also don't confuse the illuminator for a concealer! You will get the opposite effect to what you desire. Instead of hiding your signs of fatigue, you would be bringing more attention to it!

HOW TO APPLY

Always use fingers for more intensity and a brush to blend the product into the skin. How to control streaks if you’ve put too much? Remove the excess with your ring finger and blend with a brush.
