Grammy Awards 2015: Our best and worst dressed from the red carpet

Natasha Gan https://www.mariefranceasia.com/hk/author/natacha 09 Feb 2015 mis à jour le 4 May 2019 à 03:39

From Katy Perry to Rihanna - We look at the tops and the flops on the red carpet of the 57th annual Grammys. See who made it to our list.

Sia
  • 1/20
    Sia
Sia makes a fashion statement with her bizarre get-up at the 57th annual Grammy awards tonight. The Chandelier singer appeared with 12-year-old dancer Maddie Ziegler who starred in two of her music videos. Both stood fearless in matching puffy ice-blonde wigs and head-to-toe black, leaving no room for competition when it comes to eccentric style.
  • 2/20
    Taylor Swift
We've got a winner! Taylor Swift stuns in this radiant Elie Saab dress. It's Tay Tay's first time wearing blue at the Grammys, a change from the usual blush hues. Keeping it modest at the top, the mega star showed off some legs with a curtain skirt with pleated sides that drag along the red carpet. We just adore Taylor's look tonight.
  • 3/20
    Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande graced the red carpet with her beau, Big Sean, in a white Versace one-shoulder dress with metallic elements. The cutouts and high slit flattered the petite singer, but it seemed as if her stylist made a last-minute adjustment and stitched a misshapen silver cloth on her torso. On another note, it's about time for Ariana to switch the top knot for a different hairdo. It's a no from us for Ariana's look tonight.
  • 4/20
    Katy Perry
After an amazing Super Bowl performance, Katy Perry stepped into the Grammys in a stunning Zuhair Murad number. The lavender haired beauty looked dashing in a belted, backless beaded dress. She dripped with elegance in this glittered frilled midi gown. We are crazy about her ensemble tonight and this makes our favourite look from the fearless singer.
  • 5/20
    Gwen Stefani
Nobody rocks a jumpsuit this well — except Gwen Stefani. The impressive Atelier Versace black jumpsuit looks great on the 45-year-old (yes, really, 45). The chic musician/fashion designer traded her signature red lips for nude this time, accentuating her sartorial elegance. Her impeccable style never fails to inspire us!
  • 6/20
    Rihanna
As usual, Rihanna turned heads on this year's Grammy's red carpet. We can't decide if she looked more like a walking catastrophe going to prom, a loofah or a birthday cake. While the colour flattered her skin, it was the ill-fitting figure and disproportionate frock that ruined the look. She did make a great entrance and didn't arrive nearly nude, we'll give her that much, but this Giambattista Valli Couture gown is not working for us.
  • 7/20
    Ciara
What looked like a loofah-inspired dress turned into a stylish gown on Ciara, all thanks to proper styling. The gold belt accentuated the singer's waistline and with her statuesque form, drowning in the dress wasn't her concern. She was fierce in her leg-baring asymmetrical Alexandre Vauthier choice paired with a slicked-back hairdo.
  • 8/20
    Iggy Azalea
Who dat, who dat? Iggy was all fancy and classy with a cobalt blue cut-out gown. The Armani Privé number was custom designed to highlight the Australian's sexy curves, with aptly placed cut-outs and mesh detailing. Both the bodycon dress and her unique braided crown hairdo captured our attention!
  • 9/20
    Madonna
Madonna seemed to have forgotten that she is a mother and not a matador. The popstar showed up in a shocking Givenchy costume with fishnet stockings, leather gloves and thigh-high leather boots. The 56-year-old showed too much boob but clearly she didn't think so considering that she also flashed her butt on the red carpet. Less is more, Madonna.
  • 10/20
    Rita Ora
Rita Ora looked resembled a discoball rather than a diva in this shiny Prada gown. The singer usually bares skin without hesitation but this time Rita was rather prudish, with a high-neckline and a hemline. While the glitter worked on her, we would prefer a more modern cut to match the modern bling.
  • 11/20
    Nicki Minaj
Thankfully the Superbass singer didn't walk the red carpet in head-to-toe cheetah print and puffy pink afro. This time the diva showed off her assets in a plunge halter dress with sequinned frills extendingfrom her waist, draping onto her other precious assets. This lustrous dress by Tom Ford fits the rapper so well she deserves a spot on our best dressed list for this year's Grammys!
  • 12/20
    Joy Villa
What was Joy Villa thinking? It's trendy to support environmental causes but this is certainly not the way to do it. Decked in what is made of recycled fencing knitted together, the newbie looked trashy and desperate for attention. If there was one thing the debuting singer is going to be remembered for, it would be this Andre Soriano uh... dress... It cannot be unseen.
  • 13/20
    Beyoncé
Beyoncé walked on the red carpet in what is by now considered her signature look: curve-hugging dress and deep V cut. The Proenza Schouler dress boasts intricate beading and silk threading, but we would rather Queen Bey take it up a notch with something less boring.
  • 14/20
    Charli XCX
We were excited to see Charli XCX on her first Grammy appearance! She opted for a bold menswear-inspired look, by donning a glossy white suit matched with pink fluffy scarf and bow tie. The singer was every bit the fearless fashionista with her tomboy Barbie look, bravo!
  • 15/20
    Kat Graham
The Vampire Diaries star Kat Graham looked chic and graceful in a sheer dress by Yanina Couture. She hit the red carpet in a pair of Sophia Webster shoes, a Swarovski clutch, and a high bun to top it all off!
  • 16/20
    Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian came out of the shower, donned a golden bathrobe and forgot to take it off. Mrs. West blared her cleavage in an iridescent Jean Paul Gaultier dress featuring a deep plunge neckline, with matching beading detailing on the shoulders, sleeves and pockets. We think this robe is better left in the bathroom.
  • 17/20
    John Legend and Chrissy Teigen
Leave it to Chrissy Teigen and John Legend to run for the best dressed couple at red carpet events. Chrissy was glamorous in an all-white Pucci dress, showing a glimpse of underboob while Mr Legend looked dapper as always in a Dolce & Gabbana suit.
  • 18/20
    Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga flashes a lot of skin in this glamorous, shimmering dress custom made by Brandon Maxwell. With silver hair, eyeshadow and shoes, we imagine it was impossible to miss the Poker Face singer. The glitzy dress is held by a single thread running down the 28-year-old singer's back and features a thigh-high slit and plunging neckline, baring some leg and boob on the red carpet.
  • 19/20
    Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh
Pharrell Williams won Best Urban Contemporary album and he won our hearts with his sleek white suit. Switching the signature hat for shorts this time around, the musical genius lives up to his fashion-forward reputation. Both Pharrell and his wife Helen Lasichanh were in the former's Adidas collection, but Helen's horrible onesie tracksuit absolutely failed to impress us.
  • 20/20
    Miley Cyrus
Miley was in a slightly more respectable look this time, decked in a maxi black dress with cut-outs and neutral makeup. There are cut-outs on the front, sides and back, but shows nothing worth censoring in this Alex Vauthier Spring 2015 Couture gown. We hope to see Miley top this polished look in the events to come!

If you missed the much-awaited 57th annual Grammy Awards, fret not because we bring you the red carpet highlights of the night.

Upon going up on stage to snatch their awards, the defining voices of the era must first grace the red carpet in their chic designer dresses, sleek suits and perfect hair. The stars go down in history in their most stylish get-ups while some unfortunate others shocked the carpet with horrid fashion faux pas.

Leave it to mega stars like Katy Perry and Taylor Swift to appear at the most prestigious music award show looking fabulous and flawless while their fellow chart-toppers like Ariana Grande and Beyoncé looked rather underwhelming in their gowns. The carpet saw a lot of glitz and shimmer with cleavage-blaring deep V-cuts. As for the gentlemen, music geniuses like Pharrell Williams and John Legend showed off their dapper side in stylish, tailored suits alongside their ladies.

Flip through our gallery of (fashion) winners and losers as we look at the most-talked about outfits at this year's Grammys.
