SAG Awards 2015: Our best and worst dressed stars on the red carpet

23 partages
Rana Wehbe https://www.mariefranceasia.com/hk/author/rana 26 Jan 2015 mis à jour le 4 May 2019 à 04:08

As the Oscars draw nearer, we look at the Screen Actors Guild Awards to get a sense on what to expect from the stars on the red carpet. Here are some of the looks which caught our attention.

23 partages
Emma Stone
  • 1/20
    Emma Stone
Hands down - the best dressed actress to show up on the SAG red carpet today! Emma Stone left us in awe with a unique Dior Couture look which only the stunning redhead can pull off. An epitome of elegance with a fashion forward twist - her simple menswear inpired look was true to her style and inspiring. We cannot wait to see what she's going to wear for the Oscars.
  • 2/20
    Julia Roberts
And as proof that menswear-inspired fashion can go wrong - Julia Roberts turns up in an ill-fitting black Givenchy jumpsuit which left us underwhelmed. With that said, we're loving her new red locks a la Pretty Woman.
  • 3/20
    Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves
The winning couple of the night were Matthew McConaughey and his gorgeous wife Camila Alves, who both looked flawless on the red carpet. We're loving Matthew's satin blue suit - as for Camilla, that gorgeous Donna Karan Atelier dress fit her to perfection. Just stunning!
  • 4/20
    Keira Knightley
Proving to be a popular shade on the night - Keira Knightley wears a royal purple Erdem gown which lands her this time on our Best Dressed list.
  • 5/20
    Patricia Arquette
We love nothing more than seeing a lovable celebrity flaunt her curves in a classic Vivienne Westwood dress. The Boyhood star and winner for Best Actress of the night looked amazing in this dark green number which flattered her figure beautifully. Bring it on Patricia!
  • 6/20
    Felicity Jones
The British actress's now signature, elegant minimal style continues as she picks a blush-hued Balenciaga number with an off-the-shoulder bodice. We love how understated yet glamourous she looks.
  • 7/20
    Julianne Moore
Another winner of the night was Julianne Moore - both on and off the red carpet. The stunning actress dons an emerald green custom Givenchy Couture gown which complemets her skin tone and hair colour to perfection. We just love her!
  • 8/20
    Claire Danes
While there is no question about her superb acting abilities, the Homeland star always divides critics when it comes to her fashion sense. This Marc Jacobs number treads a fine line in the sense that it is a nice sillouette and design, but that belt ruins the total look for us. What do you think?
  • 9/20
    Sarah Hyland
Modern Family's young actress looked every inch the glamorous star she is in this beautiful Vera Wang gown with an encrusted bodice. We love it!
  • 10/20
    Reese Witherspoon
Looks like the Wild actress missed the memo which declared Kate Hudson the all-time 'white gown' winner leaving no room for competition after THAT Golden Globes look. However, we will give Reese credit for always looking so put-together and elegant - yet nothing special if we may say.
  • 11/20
    Lupita Nyong'o
Last year's red carpet queen strikes again - this time with a floral Elie Saab maxi dress which showcases her fearless style in fashion. Although we prefer her in more fitted cuts and perhaps stronger hues, the talented actress still managed to look stunning and make a fashion statement which we so miss this year.
  • 12/20
    Adrien Brody
The most dashing gentleman on the red carpet has to be Adrien Brody. We love his smokin' shiny suit - but even more so, his cheeky pose. Guy, take note!
  • 13/20
    Jennifer Aniston
Anyone else bored with Jennifer Aniston's plunging neckline and chest necklace yet? This has to be the Cake actress's worst look this season  and overall worst look. We just don't get the unflattering colour, cut and design of this vintage Galliano number which looks like it came from the bin bag. We miss the glamourous Jen!
  • 14/20
    Meryl Streep
No, this is no mistake. Meryl Streep makes it on our list because she owns it! While the legendary actress might not have put much effort in picking what to wear (it looks like she just wore the most convenient dress which happened to be lying around in her closet), her confidence, smile and that pose really says it all. Anyways, who really needs embellished gowns when you're Meryl Streep!
  • 15/20
    Emmy Rossum
Emmy Rossum was one of the most glamourous starlets on the SAG Awards red carpet today. This Giorgio Armani Prive dress fits her perfectly and is 'princess-y' in just the right amount.
  • 16/20
    Sofia Vergara
Sophia knows how to bring some spice to the red carpet and this time it was no different. The red shade of this Donna Karan Atelier dress suits her well and its cut is a welcome departure from the usual mermaid style she tends to opt for.
  • 17/20
    Natalie Dormer
Natalie Dormer was one of the few starlets wearing a flowy gown on the night. Her one-shoulder floral Naeem Khan number makes her stand out from the crowd.
  • 18/20
    Lorelei Linklater
While the young Boyhood starlet might be new to red carpet glamour, we have to say we expected a little more from her. Lorelei looks more like Wednesday Addam than a rising movie star in this too-tight and uncomfortable looking black frock. Let's hope this will change at the Oscars...
  • 19/20
    Mayim Bialik
Another black frock horror was Big Bang Theory's Mayim Bialik's shapeless mermaid number. While we love the actress and her character, Amy, to bits, she's still yet to impress us when it comes to the red carpet.
  • 20/20
    Jim Parsons
Contrary to his co-star and on-screen girlfriend, Jim Parsons scrubs up well on the red carpet. We love the suit/ bowtie combination.

For those of us who are looking forward to Oscars night, the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards red carpet was a good warm up - albeit a little less exciting one, style-wise.

While the misses were less than those at the Golden Globes, the hits were also fewer and not very striking as the starlets didn't take many risks and left it pretty much safe.

The standout of the night was Emma Stone in a Christian Dior Couture menswear-inspired creation which proved that you don't need a heavy crystal-encrusted gown to make an entrance (yes, we're talking to you J Lo!)

As her second stunning - and fashion-forward - appearance this season, we really can't wait to see what the Birdman star will be wearing at the Oscars next month.

However, the fashion fail of the evening was Jennifer Aniston whose vintage flimsy-looking Galliano number with plunging neckline was underwhelming and anything but glamorous - and was made worse by the fact it matched her hair colour.

Ladies were not the only ones who put effort on the red carpet - this time round, the guys stepped up their game as well with stars like Adrien Brody and Matthew McConaughey looking dashing. We assume they've been following the recent men's fashion weeks in Europe.

Be it ladies or gentlemen, check out the list of our favourite - and least favourite - looks from the SAG Awards 2015 red carpet.
