A Couture Pout
Three colours, three styles - Explained by Tom Sapin, Senior Artist for M.A.C Cosmetics.
Marilyn Monroe’s Hollywood Red
A basic must-have for your makeup bag, the true red is neither too hot nor too cold, and is just right for every woman.
Apply with a brush to avoid smudges. Start from the middle and down towards the sides, then fill in.
The Right Combination
The shade must be perfect and the blush a little accentuated; preferably sand-coloured, beige or sun-kissed with a touch of bronzer. If you have a structured brows, you can add a smoky (brown, taupe, black) or black liner to perfect the look.
For daytime, wear it by itself. For evenings, apply eyeliner too. Avoid a full red look (clothes + lipstick).
The Right Tools
Mineralize Rich Lipstick ‘Everyday Diva’, (M.A.C Cosmetics, USD$22).
The Fuchsia Look from John Richmond SS13 Runway
A deep and less natural colour, this one is a little tricky and certainly not for redheads.
This shade requires high precision, use a lip-liner to contour the lips before filling in the colour. Go for opaque fuchsia to create a bolder graphic look.
The Right Combination
Keep it soft and simple; do not apply anything on the eyes except black mascara.
For an elegant look, choose a shade with a matte or satin finish. It will work very well especially for the evening.
The Right Tools
Volupté Shine n°5 ‘Fuchsia in Excess’ (Yves Saint Laurent, USD$34).
Dior Addict Lipstick 687 ‘Espiègle’ (Dior, USD$31).
This dark shade might look intimidating at first but it works beautifully on both fair and dark complexions.
The Right Application
Use your fingertips to tap it on your lips, this will delicately enhance the colour of your mouth and face. Then, gradually contour the lips with a lip-liner.
The Right Combination
A soft smoky look - either taupe or brown - but stay on the lighter side.
A chic and elegant opaque look works well for the evening. Stick to a subtle sheer layer of colour for daytime.
The Right Tools
Rouge Allure 116 « Envoûtante » (Chanel, USD$34).
Crayon Rétractable Rouge foncé (Yves Rocher, USD$12).
