Question from Cecilia, 26: “It’s hard not to wash my hair everyday (it quickly becomes greasy), how do I lose this bad habit?”

Olivier Lebrun answers:

“It’s a vicious cycle; the more you wash your hair, the quicker it gets dirty because the scalp and sebaceous glands are weakened by frequent rubbing and detergents.”

Spacing out the number of times you wash your hair

- In addition to having a shampoo that rids of your scalp oils, get a milder one for frequent use.

- Double-shampoo (using your regular shampoo for the first wash and the mild one for the next round) on Friday, and avoid washing your hair during the weekend, instead use a dry shampoo that removes grease. On Monday, wash with both shampoos again. Repeat on Wednesday and Friday, and take a break on weekends. Then little by little, space out the shampoo days to two washes a week on Mondays and Thursdays.

His advice

- Change the look! Vary your hairstyles (ponytail, bun, etc…) on the non-shampoo days.

- Brush your hair in the morning and evening to remove dust. Use a brush with natural bristles and never use a plastic one especially if you have oily hair.

Recap: The rules of washing your hair

- Use as little product as possible; do not forget that you will be using two shampoos in one wash. - Be gentle and massage your scalp using your fingertips while shampooing!

- Rinse well (the rinsing step should take twice longer than the shampooing step).

- Ventilate your hair with your fingers while rinsing.

- Apply the conditioner only on the ends, and not on the roots.
