There has always been a fascination with false eyelashes in this part of the world. Unlike Western countries where applying lashes is kept for big occasions and nights out, here in Asia, almost every woman does it on daily basis.

But knowing how to delicately apply these lashes – and in the right amount – is key to achieving a more natural yet seductive look.

Makeup artist Jerome Sandevoir reveals his secrets for the perfect application of false eyelashes. As a bonus, he also gives us makeup tips for an irresistible look. Time to turn heads with a single blink of an eye!

How to choose the right false eyelashes?

“We choose the length first: natural looking lashes (small bunches of 3 to 4 lashes together) are great for the day or evening. But for more fun-packed themed parties, the colorful false eyelashes or those accessorized with feathers or rhinestones are perfectly suitable too.”

The right steps for application?

Apply eyeshadow then slip on the false lashes for the finishing touch.
Carefully peel off the support fringe.
Test out the length and height without the glue first, and if necessary, cut them with small scissors to fit your eyes and face proportions.
Spread the eyelash glue on a small stick and apply it evenly on the lashline. Wait ten seconds.
Facing the mirror, point your chin out towards it and then press the center and adjust the angles of the false lashes with the stick.
Exert pressure on the whole fringe of lashes for a few seconds.
Highlight the base of the lashes with a black eyeliner to erase the traces of glue.
If necessary, put a little mascara to blend the false lashes with your own lashes.

How to maintain the false lashes so they can be reusable:

“In the evening, wipe your eyelids and eyelashes clean with your regular cleanser. Then remove the false lashes gently from the outer end. If they are stained with mascara, use a cotton swab to clean them. Store them in an eyelash box after use.”

How to avoid a faux-pas of looking ridiculous or over the top:

“Make sure the lashes are not up against the crease of the eyelid, nor let it cover the brow line. For artistic false lashes, there are no rules when it comes to the amount of eye makeup neededust have fun with it!”
