Happy Birthday, Bowie

Why: Catch the special one-time screening of LABYRINTH starring David Bowie, as The Projector celebrates the birthday of the late singer-songwriter. In addition to the screening, The Analog Vault will also be bringing down some limited Bowie vinyl records, while Kristal Melson will be there selling her Bowie-inspired artworks. Dress up in your Bowie Best and join fans of the great man this Sunday at Golden Mile Tower. Get your tickets to the screening here.

Coffee Name Art
When: Friday, 6 January; 11am - 2pm
Where: Jewel Coffee, Millennia Walk, 9 Raffles Boulevard #01-92
Why: The team from art-jamming studio boulevart will setting up an art space at Millennia Walk’s Jewel Coffee to do some live name art using freshly brewed coffee (yes, you read that right). Get your names written for absolutely free at this creative event between 11am and 2pm. The session is open to all and no pre-registration is required - just rock up to the venue!

Abby Simone – Chivalrous Love
When: Saturday, 7 January; 7:15 - 9:30pm
Where: Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, 8 Raffles Avenue
Why: Backed by 3 additional musicians, the wonderful Singapore-based singer-songwriter Abby Simone will be performing all her original music at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre this Saturday evening. For those unfamiliar with her sound, Abby is hugely influenced by hip hop/R&B, and she uses her music as an avenue for self-expression. No doubt, we can definitely expect a potent and powerful performance this weekend.

Latino Night – Post Bar
When: Saturday, 7 January; 7pm onwards
Where: Post Bar, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, 1 Fullerton Square

Chinatown CNY Celebrations 2017 Opening Ceremony & Light Up
When: Saturday, 7 January; 6 - 10pm
Where: Chinatown, Singapore
Why: Every year during the Chinese New Year period, Chinatown gets a fresh slew of decorations to celebrate the coming of the new Lunar Year. As we come to the end of the Year of the Monkey and begin anew with the Year of the Rooster, we can definitely expect some vibrant and intriguing ornaments featuring the fowl. Be sure to catch the lighting up of the streets around Chinatown - there are bound to be some fun activities lined up.

Busking: Movies Reprise
When: Saturday, 7 January; 6 - 7pm
Where: Marina Bay - Mist Walk
Why: Music in the City SG, a trio made up of 1 pianist and 2 vocalists who specialise in Chinese pop songs, will be taking to Marina Bay - Mist Walk to bring audiences their very first busking performance of the year! The group will be performing songs from well-loved movies and recent films, so expect a nostalgic moment with your friends and family this Saturday evening.

2017 is off to a smooth start and Singapore is still in the mood to bring you exciting events. With Chinese New Year around the corner, it’s about time Chinatown said goodbye to those monkey ornaments and made way for vibrant rooster decorations. Good thing they’re about to liven up the streets this weekend with the Chinatown CNY Celebrations 2017 Opening Ceremony & Light Up. If you want to change up your tune, head to Post Bar at The Fullerton Hotel instead to indulge in Latino Night, where a live 3-piece band will give you the chance to bust out some seriously salsa-licious dance moves.

Speaking of live music, singer-songwriter Abby Simone will be taking the stage at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre this Saturday evening and she will be delighting fans and the public with her hip hop/R&B-inspired originals. It’s a free performance not to be missed.
