Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2013: The Wang factor
The meticulous and most awaited collection of the season has reached our shores. Here's what we love about it...
The much awaited debut of Alexander Wang at Balenciaga has seen the designer come out on top and bring out a rather interesting and successful representation of the French fashion house for their Fall/Winter 2013 collection.
Wang, who is renowned for that New York “model off duty” look, stepped up as Creative Director at Balenciaga in November 2012 to the surprise of many. But after seeing and feeling the collection, we cannot but think it was the right move.
The collection shows signs of meticulous study of the brand’s identity and is focused on creating a basic wardrobe with a personal touch on accessories and reshaping of materials for textiles. Exactly what every woman wants these days.
Black and white dominate and so does staticity.
Polished steel makes its appearance in accessories and breaks the dual B&W tone; steel bag buckles, closures and chain straps match bracelets and boot fastenings.
Wang's interpretation of Balenciaga sees simple cuts and basic looks enriched by cracked plaster-like knitwear, fur resembling marble and mosaic. The overall look is classic with an edge and extremely wearable.
The pieces have already been seen on celebrities such as Carey Mulligan at the Met Gala in New York and Lady Gaga (photos on the right), and luckily has just reached our shores.
Pieces that we can wear forever - that's what the Balenciaga Fall/Winter collection is all about and precisely why we're loving it.
