Heading Abroad: 6 Chic essentials for cold weather travel

Angela Goh https://www.mariefranceasia.com/hk/author/angela 22 Feb 2017 mis à jour le 3 May 2019 à 07:03

Heading to a cold city? Fashion hubs like Tokyo and Seoul can get pretty chilly in winter, so be prepared.

A beanie or hat

    A beanie or hat
Keep your head warm with a hat or beanie - your ears will thank you later, especially if you’re out and about at night. The great thing about carrying one of them along on your journey is that they’re lightweight and convenient.Photo: Imaxtree

    Touchscreen gloves
Yes, gloves are must, but try to bring along touchscreen gloves, which will serve to make you life a lot easier. No more fumbling with your smartphone while you pull your gloves off with your teeth when you want to respond to a text message.Photo: Imaxtree

    Warm layers
Why not take a few fashionably eye-catching layers along with you - whether they be a fancy fleece poncho or large faux fur coat, make one or two of them your ‘signature’ piece.Photo: Imaxtree

    Leggings
Leggings are a travelling woman’s best friend. They are versatile enough to be worn no matter the season or occasion, so put a few of them in your suitcase; wear them under loose-fitting trousers or even underneath your jeans if you want to keep the cold at bay. Look for fleece-lined pairs that will provide comfort and warmth. Photo: Imaxtree

    A scarf that stands out
Typical winter wear in most parts of the world are all a distinctly dark in colour. Winter coats and layers are often black or neutral shades. A colourful scarf will add some character to an otherwise boring ensemble.Photo: Imaxtree

    Boots
Boots with a good grip, that is. Think of the weather - if it starts to snow or rain, you might want to be sure your footwear can handle the slippery sidewalks. Boots that go above the ankle will also help keep some of the warmth in.Photo: Imaxtree

If you've made new holiday plans and it's going to be cold where you're headed, you don't want to be caught wearing something drab on the city streets, especially not if you're going to fashion capitals like New York, London or Tokyo. Even Sydney gets ridiculously cold around autumn, so you'll need to pack accordingly. Remember to take into consideration slippery streets and unexpected rain. Thick leggings, a fashionable beanie, even some warming gloves will help to keep you feeling comfortably warm when you're out and about.

Head up to the gallery for our roundup of 6 essentials to pack into your suitcase if you're jetting off to a cold destination, so that you'll be able to look good even when thermometer tells you it's 10 degrees celsius outside.
