Grammy Awards 2015: Winners and highlights from the night

1. AC/DC’s Highway to Hell
As the show opened, rock legend, AC/DC performed a stunning medley of songs, complete with devil horns for the audience. These guys may be old but is rock is definitely gold.

2. Pharrell’s Happy
Dressed like the bell boy from Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, Pharrell got everyone energised and up to their feet in his lively number. Coupled with Lang Lang's - the Chinese pianist - impeccable finger work, this performance was the best rendition of Happy yet.

3. Madonna continues to perform
Clearly Madonna doesn't want to age and doesn't want to stop performing either. The 56 year-old star showed some serious leg while performing her new song, 'Living for Love'. And she was surrounded by a hoard of man-bulls - we're guessing.

So then her red carpet matador outfit was probably just the teaser.

4. Kristen Wiig as Sia
First, Sia turned up on the red carpet with Dance Moms' Maddie Ziegler in matching outfits and well wigs - and of course Sia's was so huge it covered her face (how did she even walk?). Then for Chandelier performance, she was joined by Saturday Night Live's Kristen Wiig... in a wig! As Sia kept her back turned, Wiig and Ziegler were having a ball of a time prancing around a messy apartment in leotards.

5. Paul McCartney, Rihanna and Kanye West perform
Dubbed as possibly one of the most odd musical groups ever, Kanye West and Rihanna joined Beatles' legend, Paul McCartney to debut their song, 'FourFiveSeconds'. It was a rather pared back performance but which nontheless got the crowd clapping along towards the end.

6. Prince’s pointed statement
As Prince took to the stage to present the award for Album of the Year, it was certain that he would have something to add - judging by the smirk he had on his face. He said, "Albums... remember those? Albums still matter. Like books and black lives, albums still matter." - Right on Prince!

7. Beyonce’s Gospel
As the second last performance of the night, the 'Drunk in Love' goddess sang her heart out to the gospel song, 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord'. Queen Bey holds a special connection to the song as apparently, her mother, Tina Knowles used to sing it to her as a kid.

She's a queen and a heavenly angel alright!

8. Sam Smith bags 4 Grammys
The English singer swept off the Grammys this year with his four win victory for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Not only that, Smith had a special thank you for a special someone as he rounded up his speech with, "Thanks so much for breaking my heart, because you got me four Grammys."

When our hearts get broken, we only get four tubs of ice cream. In any case, congrats Sam Smith!

9. “I’ma let you finish but…”
Lo and behold, just as Beck went up the stage to accept his win for Album of the Year, Kanye West almost pulled a Kanye again.
If you remember, back in 2013, Kanye West took over Taylor Swift's spotlight by claiming Beyonce should have won Album of the Year. Nah uh, Kanye, not this time. We're pretty sure you've learned your lesson.

10. Barack Obama’s speech
While he wasn't there, the president sure took the perfect slot to deliver a message on domestic violence at the Grammys. This was followed by a live speech by a real-life survivor of domestic violence, Brooke Axtell.

After 26 performances with 23 different set ups, the 57th annual Grammy Awards has officially come to a close. Or should we say Sammys, seeing that our favourite singer, Sam Smith bagged four awards during the night – Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year and Record of the Year. We bet his prior plan to head to In-N-Out burger will be changing, now that he has all those trophies.

Before the actual show, the red carpet itself was quite the spectacular show as well from Rihanna’s late entrance in a giant cotton candy fluff to Madonna’s, well Madonna outfit. So when we finally pryed our eyes away from the hits and misses, sartorial wise, we caught up on the slew of musical performances that took our breath away. After all, it wouldn’t have been the Grammys without these highs on stage.

Whether it was SIA’s performance with Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig in tow or Pharell dressed as a bell boy for his Happy rendition, it was quite the exhilarating celebration of music in one night.

Grammys, you sure know how to satiate our musical longings.
