How to wear denim chic
updated the 4 May 2019 à 13:17Make your jeans look ‘couture’ with the right accessories and details.
Denim. Don’t we all love it? Comfortable and versatile – is there actually any self-respecting fashionista who doesn’t own at least a few pairs?
But apart from being the casual to-go-to item for decades – people rarely think of it as dressy enough for the office or even cocktail hour, so we’d be forgiven for not feeling a fully rounded love for denim and typecasting them for those lazy weekends and shopping trips.
All is not lost though because with just a few tips you can create a totally different look which is more ‘couture’ than street.
1- Double denim
Go dandy with this denim on denim look. Make sure the colours don’t clash too much and stick to dark wash. Adding a pussy-bow makes the look a little more feminine and to break the BCBG effect, accessorize with some rock rings!
(Denim Shirt: Renhsen – Jeans: Geox – Acetate glasses with cultured pearls: Chanel Eyewear – Silk Cravat: Agnès b. – Double brass ring and rhinestones: Queen Rosalie).
2- Back to basics
Put the statement pieces away and go for a delicate and slightly retro style instead. By teaming a flattering dark wash denim with a crisp white shirt and minimal accessories, you achieve this classic look with a twist. Little details like this bowtie keep things interesting.
(Cotton shirt with bowtie: IKKS Pure Edition – Jeans: Gerard Darel – Golden dial, leather strap watch: Tissot).
3- ‘Ladylike’ denim
Here at Marie France we love mixing contrasting elements. A belted denim pencil dress with over-sized pearls make a perfect combination for an unexpected glamour factor! Yes, but always go for XXL statement pearls to avoid looking dated!
(Denim dress with grosgrain belt: Weekend Max Mara – Oversized beaded necklace: Marion Godart – Oversized beaded necklace: Poggi).
4- Contemporary chic
We believe accessories can make a big difference when it comes to denim outfits. Team your skinny jeans with a white vest, chic pointed heels and statement clutch to create a sophisticated look with a contemporary edge.
