It's Christmas Eve! However, the idea of gaining an extra few pounds agonises you - especially when you've worked so hard to keep in good shape throughout the year. Do not panic though, here are 4 tips that should help you control your weight.

TIP # 1: FORGET THE PRE-CHRISTMAS EVE PLANS

There is nothing worse than making a draconian regime just before or after an evening of celebration. Once you arrive at the dinner, you will inevitably find everything you have dreamed of eating. But this is the gateway to the yoyo effect, since the body, will store more to prepare for the next restriction. Fasting after the celebrations is unnecessary as well, as it once again interferes with your body's usual metabolism. Eat light, but eat anyway.

TIP # 2: LISTEN TO YOUR FEELINGS

Do you really need that dessert? Are you sure you want to refill? In any case, always go for fruit-based desserts and vegetables, that are high in fiber and vitamins. Essentially do not skimp on the vegetables as they will help you feel satisfied. Take time to taste and appreciate the sweet products (chocolates, candied chestnuts, log), rather than swallow them one after the other.

TIP # 3: DO NOT DEPRIVE YOURSELF BUT LIMIT EXCESS

The important thing is to have fun, especially during the holidays! So avoid starving yourself but limit the damage. For example, the aperitif, do not chug them down but enjoy a sample or two, and wait to go to the main course by snacking on raw vegetable sticks accompanied with white cheese sauce. The seafood platter? Go eat! Crustaceans are a very good alternative to foie gras, and are rich in nutritional benefits (vitamins, minerals and proteins). For dessert, opt for a frozen log - easier to digest than the pastries. Finally, for drinks, avoid alcohol mixtures and limit yourself to one or two glasses of champagne to toast the new year!

TIP # 4: MOVE!

Nobody said you had to do an intensive sports program. Instead just practice a soft but regular physical activity (walking, cycling). If you are early risers (and motivated), it'll be best to include a workout before breakfast. Researchers have found that running or biking on an empty stomach is more effective than after eating.
