PowerLounge: How do people with different lifestyles rate EMS training?

updated the 3 May 2019 à 13:05

If you’re still on the fence about EMS training, perhaps these reviews will help you to make your decision.

Sedentary: Jacqueline Ng

The mere mention of EMS training can garner looks of worry, thinking that it could only be a workout meant for active and fit people. However, that’s far from the truth. In fact, EMS training can be customised to suit your preferences. You can vary the intensity of the current and the exercises can be suited to your capabilities. So even if you’ve not exercised for years, you will find that EMS training would not wear you down like you may expect it to.

To test that, we brought together two individuals, Jacqueline Ng, who leads a largely sedentary lifestyle and Sara Wee, who is constantly engaged in workouts and sports on a day to day basis, to give EMS training a go and deliver their verdict.

After having not worked out for years, Jacqueline was suited up with the EMS attire and got to her feet on a basic warm up routine. As soon as she got comfortable moving around in the suit, the current’s intensity was dialed up to a level that could be handled.

Since Jacqueline was working out for the first time after a long lull period, the personal trainer ensured that the currents were not too strong for her right from the beginning. Apart from that, the intensity was also customized to different levels on different parts of the body. This way, she can choose to engage her arms more than her core if she so prefers to.

While she did feel aches in her body soon after, Jacqueline mentioned that the current was not unbearable, which she did not expect when she first heard about it.

All in all, she was pleasantly surprised at how much she enjoyed the session and saw it as a good way to firm up her muscles. Specifically the short time (20 minutes) also made it that much more convenient to fit into her busy schedule. So if anything, we definitely will be seeing more of Jacqueline in the studio!

Sara is not only someone who leads an active lifestyle but encourage others to do so as well with her yoga classes. So she was definitely pumped to get into the suit and see what the fuss about EMS training was all about.

Once she felt her muscles contracting, she knew the session was going to be intense but yet it was a level of intensity that she was comfortable with. Throughout her session, what she was particularly pleased with was how the workout made her more conscious of which muscles were being engaged. For instance, she realized that when doing lunges with a side twist, it was more of her obliques instead of her legs that were engaged, allowing her to better understand the type of workouts to do.

For her, the 20 minute-long workout also felt like what a typical full 2 – 3 hour long session would be like, which she considered an efficient use of time.

When asked if the suit could also be used during her yoga sessions, she said, “Yes, but it might be distracting. There would be some yoga practitioners who would not agree with this as it would be too distracting whereas I would think this will help a lot in core engagement.”

Nonetheless, she could see the potential of the suit being used in different types of exercises or sports sessions like cycling or boxing, especially since the suit is wireless.

At the end of it, even for someone who’s already leading a rather active lifestyle with workouts almost every day, the EMS training still felt a whole lot more effective and she’s definitely keen to try it again.

We can see that no matter what your objective of working out is, or the type of lifestyle you lead, EMS training can aid in ensuring that you get an effective workout without over-exerting yourself.
