Out & Away: 6 Ways to staying healthy while traveling
Traveling can be fun—only if you know the right ways to repel the flu bug.
Do you live by the #YOLO (You Live Only Once) principle and abandon your healthier diet restrictions once you’re on holiday? Well, technically it’s not wrong to let your guards and hair down while traveling. However, to put it in a wiser perspective, once your system’s down, your traveling days can only be worst.
The good news is, you can embrace healthy, simple habits that can go a long way. Whether you’re traveling out for a work trip in a big city or on a mission trip to a village, you can indulge on the traveling pleasures—while keeping your health and well-being in check.
MAKE TIME FOR A QUICK EXERCISE
If you’re staying in a hotel, head down to the gym for a 15-min workout. Even if you’re not, take a short walk or jog before you head to the showers for 10-min. Not willing to step out of your room? Exercise in the hotel room. Do 1-min standing squats, do 3 sets of crunches, do hip lifts. Your time is precious, but your health is too.
SKIP ROOM SERVICE
If your hotel room has a kitchen, save the cash and calories by getting a few healthy cooking essentials and prepare them there. Don’t worry, it won’t take a lot of your time. At the market, pick up a few potatoes and bake them with a sprinkle of salt. Load your room with fruits like grapes, apples. Nutritious, filling, energy-packed—you would be ready to face the day.
HEALTHIER SNACKS ON-THE-GO
Raw almonds or cashew nuts are healthy snacks that keep away the hunger on the go. Skip the chips and save your throat from inflammation which can lead to an unnecessary fever. Granola bars are great too, keep some on our bag and chew on them when you get hungry.
IN THE AIRPORT
Whether you’re transiting for a couple of hours or waiting for youe departure flight, food would be your go-to choice to fill in the time. For snacks, opt for a bar of real plain dark chocolate if you want something sweet and go for almonds or clean (without mayo dressings) sandwiches.
HAND SANITIZER
We would suggest you to get the PocketBac hand sanitizer from Bath and Body Works. Not only are they conveniently small, they act handy as light, refreshing perfume too. You would never be 100% sure of what your hands are touching on the go, whatever it is, keeping your hands germs free would save you a lot of trouble.
WEAR YOUR GLASSES
Wearing contacts may already be a regular thing for you and you do not like the nerdy four-eyed glasses look, but wearing one is a safer and healthier choice for your eyes. Being on the plane for long hours will cause your contacts and eyes to get dry, or infected.
Whether you’re traveling for a few short days for a business meeting, or entertainment, we’re sure these tips will come in handy for avid travelers like you. Stay healthy and bon voyage!
