Why was InterContinental Danang named the World's Leading Luxury Resort?

If you're looking for time away where you can be in the midst of luxury and lush greenery - with the sea as your morning view - then you can quit searching because InterContinental Danang offers all that and more.

Barefoot Restaurant

Right from our first step into InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort's impeccably designed reception, we were beyond floored. Decked out in signature black and white decor with beautiful hints of an oriental influence, there was no discounting that this was indeed the World's Leading Luxury Resort.

Almost immediately we were whisked away to an outdoor balcony to feast our eyes on the glorious view that opened up in front as the helpful staff got us ginger tea and assisted in our check in. Sure enough it became difficult to peel our eyes away from the stunning sight, but alas it was time to head to our room, and let's just say our jaws continued dropping throughout the buggy ride there.

So before we get all doe-eyed and stumble on our words while describing the sheer beauty, here's a breakdown on why the resort has won over our hearts and stolen our breaths - over and over again.

1. An all-in-one paradise

When we say all-in-one, we really do mean every word. Located quite a distance away from the main Danang city, you wouldn't exactly want to be spending your time traveling to and fro for meals, drinks or entertainment and that is exactly why the resort is perfectly fitted out - so you don't have to leave. From housing four main dining establishments - with different cuisines - to a plush movie theatre, six period-themed (1920s - 70s) karaoke rooms, a rooftop lap pool with jacuzzi, and the HARNN Heritage Spa, you would be spoilt for choice. And that's not even all that the sprawling property has to offer.

If you feel like a spot of retail therapy, there are stores selling beautiful trinkets and apparel or you can also get your outfit custom made with their in-house tailor. Otherwise, get your nails luxuriously pampered at the PEDI: MANI: CURE studio or head up to the library that's extensively stocked with a good selection of books for an intriguing read.

Despite the cold winds, we were definitely kept occuped by soaking up in the pool, indulging in a relaxing spa session that removed all forms of stress knots and devouring nibbles as we went along. Sheer bliss if you will.

2. Thoughtfully designed luxury

Conceptualized by famed architect, Bill Bensley, the resort is quite simply cloaked with brilliant design. Said to have travelled all over Vietnam, Bensley picked out different elements that were signature of Vietnamese culture and melded it with modern sensibilities to attain a very appealing and quirky result. Simply take how the resort is divided - across four levels that are aptly named, Heaven, Sky, Earth and Sea. And to travel from Sea to Heaven, you can either take the boat-shaped tram up a steep incline or climb 365 steps (days of a year) on their 'Stairway to Heaven'. Consider us sold at just how smartly Bensley incorporated beautiful whimsy into the resort.

In addition, since the retreat is also situated within the dense rainforest of the mythical Monkey Mountain, you'll find cheeky monkey statues dotted all around the area - further cementing their idiosyncratic status.

3. Impeccable hospitality

If there's one thing that always puts a smile to our faces when we visit a hotel, it's the warm reception by the staff. Not only were they friendly and assisted us with our requests with pleasure, they also showed an interest in getting to know their guests. That is especially true of the buggy drivers, who made sure we were comfortable by gleefully chatting with us. Even at breakfast, the staff would swing by your table to ascertain everything was going well or simply to strike up conversation, which definitely served to create a good start to the day.

Most importantly, it was hospitality done with a warm and generous heart.

4. Breathtaking view

As soon as we reached the hotel, the first thing we knew we had to catch a glimpse of was the view, and took our breaths away it promptly did. The panoramic sight of the endless East Sea horizon was downright stunning and catching the waves hit the shoreline and the rocks was strangely therapeutic. So if you tend to go weak in the knees for spectacular views, this particular one has to be seen in real life to believe, and even then you might find it hard to accept.

Trust us, we were pinching ourselves the whole time we were there. It's definitely a view you would want to snuggle up with your other half and take in for the entire day - which you can easily do no matter you're lounging at your private balcony or sitting by the pool with a drink in hand.

5. Michelin-starred cuisine

Lastly, how can we forget the food? Specifically, we're talking about La Maison 1888 that's opened by the 3 Michelin star chef, Pierre Gagnaire. Hailed as one who crafts classic French dishes as a form of expression or language, Gagnaire sure has a flair for reaching the hearts of diners with his cuisine. Quite simply, every dish was presented with exceptional finesse and pleased our palates with every bite. It's no wonder, the luxurious restaurant has earned itself a spot as one of the Top 10 World's Best New Restaurants by CNN.

Romantic Retreat

Throughout our stay, as a couple, this was just the perfect spot to spend some quality time together and we imagine it being absolutely idyllic for honeymooners to celebrate their blissful marriage. For couples who want to give their stay an extra dose of special, you can book your stay with Club InterContinental, a luxury add-on with premium and bespoke benefits. These include Club Suite room type, chauffeured car service from the airport, access to an exclusive Club InterContinental Lounge (for private check-in and complimentary F&B served throughout the day), a dedicated butler service and staff on hand to assist with anything including complimentary clothes pressing.

And for those looking to get married at the location, you have the benefit of an in-house wedding planner to assist to all your needs - from arranging flowers, to transport to catering, decor and even your wedding dress. Putting those wedding day jitters at rest is of their top most concern.

Perks of the IHG Rewards Club

Last but not least, members of the IHG Rewards Club - the world's first and largest hotel loyalty programme - can earn points when staying at an IHG hotel as long as they book their room nights directly through an IHG website. Additionally, the points are fully transferable, never expire and you can use them to redeem anything from airline miles, to dining vouchers and magazine subscriptions.

For us, we used part of our points to redeem airline miles on a club partner airline and thus redeemed another flight ticket to Danang. As for the remaining points, that was used to redeem an additional night at the resort. All in all, the process for redemption was convenient and quick, making being a member exceptionally beneficial.

Now, if you're ever looking for a chance to experience what being cloaked in luxury is all about, then a trip to InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort awaits and take our word, it'll be hard to say goodbye to the view and the impeccable service from the staff. We'll see you again Danang.
