On Our Radar: 7 Asian designers making waves during London Fashion Week

updated the 21 February 2018 à 11:39

In light of the discussion on diversity in fashion, we shine a spotlight on our favourite looks from 5 Asian designers whose designs graced the catwalk this LFW.

London Fashion Week FW18

Coming hot on the heels of New York, London Fashion Week proves the British capital certainly holds its own in fashion.

Here are just a few highlights from the week: Christopher Bailey showcased his final show for Burberry with an enlivening rainbow-themed runway (a nod to the label’s active support for LGBTQ charities); model and fashion it-girl of-the-moment Adwoa Aboah speaks out against the rampant fear-mongering and abuse in the modeling world; and a whole slew of truly avant-garde looks from the likes of Central Saint Martins and reputed designers graced the runway.

In our current political and social climate of plenty of diversity talk, it’s perhaps also timely to acknowledge the notable presence of Asian designers showing during LFW. Brilliant new faces brought a breath of fresh air to LFW: there is Rejina Pyo already touted as one to watch; Chinese-born and Dior haute couture-trained designer Huishan Zhang; and Asai, whose South London upbringing and Chinese-Vietnamese cultural heritage beautifully translates and weaves itself onto his work.

And then you have the names that need no introduction: like the visual spectacle that was Delhi-born Ashish Gupta’s show; and London-based Osman Yousefzada, whose designs have been worn by the likes of Beyonce, Alexa Chung, Zhang Zhiyi, Katy Perry, Charlize Theron, Lady Gaga to name a few. We’ve curated our favourite runway looks from 7 Asian designers making waves during LFW this season – have a peek in the slideshow above!
