Golden Globes 2015: Our best and worst dressed stars on the red carpet

60 partages
Rana Wehbe https://www.mariefranceasia.com/hk/author/rana 12 Jan 2015 mis à jour le 4 May 2019 à 04:33

As the awards season kicked off today with the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards, we look at the celebrities who stood out on the red carpet - for the right or wrong reasons.

60 partages
Kate Hudson
  • 1/20
    Kate Hudson
Donning a perfectly-fitted white Versace mermaid dress which showed off her sexy bod, it was hard not to admire how the charismatic actress could pull off such a daring look without looking trashy. Now if only we could have that confidence - and figure!Photo credit: SIPA
  • 2/20
    Jessica Chastain
Ever since she came into the limelight, Jessica Chastain has never failed to impress us with her elegant choices on the red capet. This year's Golden Globes is no different as she stuns with a bronze metallic Versace number complementing her red locks to perfection. Love it!Photo credit: SIPA
  • 3/20
    Felicity Jones
Felicity Jones - who stars in one of this year's biggest movies The Theory of Everything - has to be the fashionista on our radar this year. Going for a regal Dior Couture gown in a unique teal hue, the actress looks incredibly elegant and oh-so-gorgeous. We can't wait to see more of her looks at the rest of the awards ceremonies this year, and judging by this look, we hopefully won;t be disappointed.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 4/20
    Lorde
Lorde stepped up her fashion game this time round and we have to say, the result is pretty stunning! We're loving the sleek tuxedo by Narciso Rodriguez teamed with those diamonds and a sleek ponytail. The cropped top underneath makes the look more flirty and age-appropriate for the 18 year-old star. She never looked better!Photo credit: SIPA
  • 5/20
    Emma Stone
Another young and unusual look ws that of Emma Stone whose jumpsuit divided fashionistas - but certainly gained our approval. Glamour with a twist. We like!Photo credit: SIPA
  • 6/20
    Amal Clooney
As we're sure like us, many of you were anticipating what the new Mrs. Clooney will wear for her first official red carpet as Goerge's plus one - Amal failed to impress us with an uninspiring choice. What made things worse are those white gloves which looked out of place. However, kudos to the human rights lawyer for showing support to the victims at Charlie Hebdo massacre by placing a 'Je suis Charlie' pin on her clutch.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 7/20
    Amy Adams
Amy Adams was a winner tonight -both at the ceremony and the red carpet. The red-headed beauty took home the'Best actress' award for her role in Big Eyes, wearing an elegant Atelier Verscae dress whose baby blue hue matched the colour of her eyes.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 8/20
    Salma Hayek
The Mexican beauty's sultry look and stunning Alexander McQueen gown gained our thumbs up. However, we are not too sure she needed that many clashing accessories.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 9/20
    Chrissy Teigen
Another stunning white look was that of John Legend's wife Chrissy Teigen who opted for an intricately beaded figure-hugging Zuhair Murad number which oozed sex appeal and sophistacation.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 10/20
    Reese Witherspoon
Shimmer was also big on the red carpet where Best Actress nominee Reese Witherspoon showed us how it's done. We love the simplicity of the perfectly-fitting Calvin Klein collection gown that complemented her trim figure.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 11/20
    Julianne Moore
Another winning shimmery look was that of Julianne Moore who took the award for Best Actress in Drama in a cutom-made Givenchy gown. She looks stunning from head to toe!Photo credit: SIPA
  • 12/20
    Dakota Johnson
The highly-anticipated 50 Shades of Grey's lead actress Dakota Johnson turned on the heat on the red carpet with a silver Chanel number which left us in awe. Loving the loose waves as well.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 13/20
    Naomi Watts
One of the more unusual hues on the red carpet was this canary yellow worn by Naomi Watts. We're digging the bold hue of her Gucci gown and that stunning Bvlgari necklace which added an extra glamorous touch to the outfit.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 14/20
    Claire Danes
One of our favourite actresses to look out for on the red carpet is Claire Danes for her choices are always unique. This time round, the Homeland actress went for something with a little more detail than her usual style. We have to say, although it did not live up to come of her previous looks, we still loved the gown which was so intricate and detailed.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 15/20
    Jennifer Aniston
While we had missed seeing Jennifer Aniston in the awards red carpet, her comeback for the Golden Globes this year was a bit of a letdown. Her black Saint Laurent number was unispiring and made her look mumsy. Not our favourite look of the lovable star.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 16/20
    Kerry Washington
Another starlet who disappointed us with her choice on the red carpet was Kerry Washington. Yes, she's always been one to go for quirky and unusual choices, but this time her risk didn't pay off and this Mary Katrantzou dress should have been left at home.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 17/20
    Sienna Miller
While we loved British actress Sienna Miller's Miu Miu dress in theory - the fact that it was ill-fitting made her land on our worst dressed list instead.Photo credit: SIPA
  • 18/20
    Keira Knightley
Another British actress who failed to impress us was Keira Knightley, whose frumpy Chanel dress looked more like a sleeping gown. We get it that it's harder to find a fitted choice when you're pregnant but that's no excuse for us!Photo credit: SIPA
  • 19/20
    Rosamund Pike
We had high hopes for Gone Girl's Rosamund Pike who like her fellow Brit actresses failed to impress us. While the white Vera Wang gown could have had potential, the fact it didn't fit well or flatter the talented actress and new mom lost her some style points.

  • 20/20
    Lana Del Ray
However, our overall worst dressed of the day was Lana Del Rey whose shiny vintage Travilla gown looked like something we would wear for a disco-themed costume party. What made things even worse is her OTT makeup and hair extentions. Photo credit: SIPA

The awards season is upon us and brides-to-be had a lot to take inspiration from this year at the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards red carpet, as white - and shimmer - dominated the red carpet for the second year running.

But while the colour of choice was not something new, some of the looks were definitely show-stopping like Kate Hudson's sexy Versace number and Salma Hayek's Alexander McQueen gown which oozed glamour. Others who failed to impress include Keira Knightly in her frumpy Chanel - which in our opinion resembled a granny's getup - and Hollywood's It girl of the moment Rosamund Pike whose bridal Vera Wang gown was ill-fitting and unflattering for the otherwise stunning actress.

White aside, we were blown away by some of the more unusual choices like Lorde's sleek tuxedo by Narciso Rodriguez, Felicity Jones' impossibly elegant emerald Dior gown and Jessica Chastain's  sultry yet sophisticated Versace look.

Many more stars caught our attention on the first major red carpet event of the year so here's a roundup of our 20 best and worst dressed from the Golden Globe Awards 2015.
