In a place where soaring temperatures and a rising humidity index bother us in more ways than one, we will indubitably take a page from the weather book before adding any article of clothing into our wardrobe.
Fundamentally, there are 3 Nos in our guide – no leather, no tweed, no fur. With that out of the way, it’s easier to construct a closet full of breathable, easy-to-wear options and yet maintain our sartorial quotient.
Singapore-born designer, Danelle Woo started Aijek, which is a label that beautifully marries effortless cuts and silhouettes with a good dose of romanticism in the designs. And perhaps in an ode to the tropical island’s weather, Aijek has thus far only released Spring/ Summer collections.
For her SS14 collection, ‘Fly Home’, launched early this year, the line up of designs carry a sense of ethereal charm and quiet elegance. Constructed out of delicate pink and blue French laces, chiffon and sand-washed silk, the light fragility is then juxtaposed with the use of buckles and re-interpreted masculine shapes for an evocative balance between two forces.
Additionally, the brand is not entirely focused on delivering trend-centred designs, which in all honesty are more than welcomed. Aijek prides itself for consistently crafting pieces that are timeless and wearable no matter which decade you find yourself in. Hence, even if they’re not going to wow the audience at the runway, they’d be sure to perk you up as you get dressed in the morning – just from the sheer ease of it all.
So, instead of chasing trends well into the New Year, perhaps it’s time to take a calculated step back, re-haul your closet and stock up on quality classics that won’t disappear once the glossies declare the trend’s death.
