Flower Power: 10 Tips to adopt the floral trend

MF editorial team https://www.mariefranceasia.com/hk/author/editorialasia 05 Sep 2016 mis à jour le 3 May 2019 à 09:33

Floral prints can definitely put us in a good mood! Check out our guide on the most appropriate way to flaunt this trend with elegance.

Just a touch
  • 1/10
    Just a touch
Just adopting one piece in your ensemble to show the trend, such as a printed skirt, plain sweater or pretty sky blue shirt with floral details, can make all the difference. We like the idea of a long maxi skirt littered with colourful flowers - it lends a very contemporary silhouette, especially with a pair of heels.Photo: Imaxtree

    The total look
For seasoned fashionistas, we dare you to adopt the floral look from head to toe. Why not put on a flowery mix of prints in the form of a matching top-and-bottom set? We’re liking the dark ensemble here - the minimal accessories and simple makeup help to make the outfit stand out. For a more casual “at home” look, a lighter and more delicate ensemble will pair well with some heavy-set boots.Photo: Imaxtree

    Offbeat and bold
To offset a print or embroidered top or jacket, try on a pencil skirt or smart trousers. You’ll want to embrace a more basic look with minimal accessories if there’s already a lot going on with the colours and prints on display. Try various sets of materials - luxe cotton and silk, leather and lace… For a healthy glow when it comes to your complexion, choose warm colours.Jacket Mitchell Pinata Jacquard Raglan Pockets and Gold (Roseanna, approx. At arm’s length
For the more cautious, this is an easy way to add a little flower power to your outfit. A floral embroidered purse or wallet can brighten up your casual outfit. Florals in monochrome hues can also set the tone. Look for a bold yet understated bag that can be used both in the day and in the evening.Bag Leather Pouch (Ted Baker, approx. SGD167)

    70s revival
Let the 70s live in all of us! Bell bottom jeans, wedge sandals, diaphanous blouses with floral motifs… travel back in time and adopt this easy trend. We adore the sheer transparency of this blouse - it provides a lightness to the look, which in turn delivers a very feminine vibe.Photo: Imaxtree

    In lace
Whether it’s a top, a skirt, or a dress, anyone can appreciate wearing flowery patterns in tonal lace. It lends a more discreet and romantic silhouette. This combination is a classic - a cotton t-shirt with rolled sleeves, a pair of classic boots, and a long skirt to softly transform the look. You could even add a few accessories like a hat to balance the femininity with some masculinity.Photo: Imaxtree

    Jewellery
If you’re finding it hard to add florals to your dress code, perhaps jewellery might be an alternative. Bring a touch of spring to your wrists with a flowery watch, or perhaps don some flower-inspired earrings, or a necklace that features a gorgeous bloom. Even the smallest details can catch the eye.Wrist Watch (Laruze, approx. SGD257)

    At your feet
Shoes with bold prints can really transform an outfit and take it to the next level. We’re loving these colourful examples that are totally fit for summer. Add a splash of funky fun to your everyday ensembles!Canvas & Leather Pumps (Mellow Yellow, approx. SGD105) and Canvas Sneakers with Leather & Rhinestones (Roger Vivier, approx. SGD1507)

    Gorgeous lingerie
Play a little hide and seek with some lovely lingerie pieces that are sure to entice your beau. Let a floral bra peek out a little with a slightly open white shirt. We like the mix of materials seen here: white lace + microfibre, for that fresh look. The bustier is also one of this season’s trends.Photo: Andres Sarda Lookbook Spring/ Summer

    Actual flowers
If you think you are totally unsuited to wearing flowers anywhere on your body, you can always resort to splurging on a pretty bouquet to spruce up your look. If anything, the real live flowers would be guaranteed to turn into a conversation starter.Photo: Series "Mode conseil : une longueur d'avance" by Nicolas Le Forestier and Deborah Dutrain (Marie France No. 241 / September 2015)

Flowers are a timeless trend - they’re available during all four seasons and in all sorts of colours. But you need to know how to wear them, fashion-wise. Don’t worry, whether you are beginner or a know-it-all fashionista, we’ll explain how to flaunt those florals with ease.

You can start with small and simple, perhaps a printed skirt or some florals embroidered on a section of your jeans. If you’re feeling more daring, go for the total look: flowers from head to toe - you’re guaranteed to turn heads this way.

Accessorise to the nines

Who said that the flower pattern was reserved for tapestries and paintings? Nope! When it comes to accessorising your look, try some floral inspired jewellery or a pair of shoes with floral prints. For a bohemian and romantic look, a dress that features floral lace will definitely impress a date.

Still not convinced of this trend? Try a pair of floral underwear to make you feel beautiful. If anything, your hidden garment will make your darling happy.
