10 Tips that everyone should know to look thinner

updated the 3 May 2019 à 15:10

If diets and sports are really not your cup of tea, or if you just need a little extra boost, then here’s a cheat sheet to looking slimmer.

Tame lengths

If you do not already know, the secret to looking thinner sometimes is a simple optical illusion! Here are 10 fashion and beauty tips for how to look thinner.

1. KNOW THE LENGTH

For example, a crop top combined with pretty high-waist pants and a pair of heels lengthen your figure and make you visually lose a few kilos; this goes as well for choosing your skirt. For a refining effect, choose a maxi (it should barely touch the floor and you shouldn’t be walking on it), or a knee-length skirt, and it should never cut off your calves.

2. ADOPT THE HIGH WAIST

The high waist is now an asset to harmonize and boost your figure. In addition to lengthening the lower body, it makes you look sexy by highlighting your hips. Be it pants or skirt you’ll be spoiled for choice!

3. CHOOSE GOOD FOOTWEAR

Regardless of heel height, go with the most low-cut shoe as possible. The more you let skin appear at your ankles the better, because your legs will appear longer. This only applies if you choose the right length for pants, which is ideally a little above the ankle.

Conversely with a long maxi skirt, avoid at all costs high heeled shoes that let your ankles appear; opt for flat sandals that accentuate the slender effect. If you’re wearing pants, refine the silhouette and avoid breakage and color coordinate everything. For skirts, choose nude heels, as it will earn you a few centimeters and your legs will look their finest.

4. STAY AWAY FROM COMPLICATED DETAILS

Don’t wear anything draped, ruffled, pleated or things that are too pronounced and materials that are too shiny. The additional volume will not look great. Use flatter cuts on the hips as much as possible, because contrary to what one might think, the more your body is sculpted, it appears thinner.

5. INVEST IN YOUR BRA SIZE

This may sound crazy, but 80% of women do not know their true size bra. What are the results? Poorly maintained breasts and a catastrophic result under our clothes. When it’s too small, the top overflows and small unsightly bulges come out at the neck and sides. And when it’s too large, poorly supported breasts will tend to sag in appearance and reduce the length of our torso. A bra properly selected will make your upper body look longer.

6. GOOD HAND BAG

By manner of optical illusion, a large bag will make you look slimmer and a small pouch will make you look wider. However, do not switch to the extreme by choosing a bag that besides being totally disproportionate seem ridiculous.

A nice, structured and medium size bag will be best. The plus? The bag is the perfect accessory to divert attention from the part of your body that you find wide. For example, when worn over the shoulder, it will draw attention away from wide hips.

7. INVEST IN SHAPEWEAR

What is common between Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé and the Kardashian sisters? To enhance their figure and look thinner, all have long adopted for the sheathing lingerie. Whether it be for the body or high waist pants, there is an solution to each of our small problems.

8. TIGHTEN UP THE BELT!

As the favorite accessory of the season, there are many ways to wear it. On a dress, sweater and even on coats, it draws us a slender waist and allows us to adjust our silhouette. If you want to lengthen your leg, choose a belt placed a little higher on the abdomen.

9. GO MONOCHROME

The total black look is classy, but not all the time! If there is a best known tip, it is to use only a single colour to your outfit as it unifies the silhouette and therefore makes you look slimmer. Try shades of white, red and other flagship colours of the season!

10. GET TANNER

Because when we talk about fashion, beauty is never far away, here’s one last tip: a tan will often make you appear thinner. It is preferable to use the gentle methods and other tricks, or get an even tan under the sun.
