Bringing the 90’s Back: The dress-over-T-Shirt trend

updated the 3 May 2019 à 15:38

Summer layering is back with this 90’s trend.

Dress over T-shirt trend

With the return of 90s beauty trends, fashion isn’t a stranger to the pre-millennial appreciation. While some of the trends were debatable (double denim, ill-fitting blazers, Jennifer Aniston’s The Rachel haircut), the sundress-over-T-Shirt trend is no different. For a long time, fashionistas of the current period didn’t bother reconsidering the trend because of how impractical it seemed, and how it does remind us of our experimental tween days. Lately, it’s getting a well-deserved resurrection thanks to tasteful styling choices and the ever-popular normcore wave.

A rule of thumb to note is to go for a fitted T-Shirt juxtaposed with a flowy dress so you don’t add any excessive bulk, especially in our humidity. For a chic look, opt for lower-cut shirts so you can play up accessories such as dainty necklaces or statement chokers. Crew-neck T-Shirts give off a preppy vibe when paired with sleeveless dresses in deep, muted hues like navy blue or burgundy. Channel your inner gypsy with maxi sundresses in graphic prints and pair the look with tough boots to add more edge.

We’ve gathered a few inspirational looks from the queens of 90s fashion themselves, plus a round up of the chicest T-shirts and sundresses for you to layer up this weekend. Now all you need is to watch a few reruns of Friends.
