Chokers might be synonymous with pre-teen girls exploring their gothic side (what with the rise of soft grunge on social media and an increasing influence on the delicate rock-goth look), but a polished, sophisticated piece will no doubt make you stand out from the crowd. When in luxe materials such as gold, silver and leather and embellished with details like precious stones and pearls, we can’t help but want to wrap our necks with them. But how does one pull it off without looking too try-hard?
Keep it simple and never overdo on the accessories. Though this rule applies to any accessory you put on, it’s exceptionally vital to follow when it comes to chokers since it is such a statement piece in itself. Don’t try to compete it with dangling earrings that will distract or even overcrowd the look. If you must fill in your pierced ears, go for small studs for a touch of elegance.
Go for super-plunging or high neck lines and try not to opt for anything in between. A choker over a high-neck top or turtleneck will turn your top into a chic collared one, while over a plunging neckline, it’s the perfect company. Wearing your choker with a mid-neckline top like a boat neck or T-Shirt will cut off the flow compared to a clear-cut separation of necklace and top you would get from a very low or very high neckline.
Take a look in our gallery above on how designers styled their models on the runways with the statement neck piece. Also, we’ve got some picks you would want to consider for your next evening outfit – from the absolutely minimal to the undeniably opulent.
