No Longer Trending: 5 Other jean cuts that are not skinnies

There are other jean cuts that exist too y’know?

Bootcut

Earlier this year, the denim-wearing population was shaken by the revelation that an Australian woman suffered from damaged nerves just from wearing skinny jeans.

Just one isolated medical incident is not enough to crucify the skinnies. However, a fashion epidemic is.

Since the mid-noughties and the rise of Punk Princess Avril Lavigne, skinnies dominated the style landscape. Even men donned the super-tight cut and blinded us with their scrawny little chicken legs.

While skinny jeans can be flattering with their sleek silhouette, the daily trial squeeze into and out of them can be a real pain. Not to mention, these tight pants really know how to make the hot weather less bearable.

The most unfortunate thing about the age of the skinny jeans is the wave of homogenous style you’re faced with when you step out the front door. Life is dull without colour, and skinnies are the flat note we stick with just because we’re afraid to take fashion risks.

After what seems like a century of skinny jeans, there is little more refreshing than seeing a woman in a feminine pair of flared jeans. Not forgetting boyfriend jeans that make us weep in comfort, and culottes that add a stylish flair befitting of an It-girl.

That’s the great thing about jeans, they are a democratic piece of clothing. It doesn’t matter whether you’re big, small, tall or short – there isn’t just one perfect cut out there for you.

Goodbye skinny jeans, your tyrannical reign will not be missed.
