Seoul Fashion Week FW15: Top 5 menswear trends spotted on the runways

As the menswear shows wrapped up this week at SFW, we look at what has been trending for men in K-town.

Womenswear-inspired

When it comes to fashion and style, Korean men set the standards really high. While worldwide, men's and women's fashion weeks take place separately, they are instead combined into one at Seoul Fashion Week whose FW15 season ends today after 6 days of great shows for both genders.

And that's good news for us since so much of Korean fashion prides itself for a genderless identity and both womenwear and menswear can sometimes overlap, making the trends even more exciting.

This year at the SFW AW15 menswear shows, minimalism was out and opulence was in. From bling to fur, accessories and feminine elements - here are the top 5 menswear trends seen at Seoul Fashion Week this season.

Womenswear-inspired

While menswear-inspired fashion has been sweeping the catwalks and red carpet - it was about time the opposite has happened and the boys instead borrowed a thing or two from us ladies. Watching shows like Resurrection and Caruso - we found ourselves wanting so many of the runway pieces - for us that is! From fitted suits in matching brocade to oversized leather tops, flared pants and even skirts, some of the looks blurred the lines even more between both genders, something we can't help but love. This season brought a new meaning to borrowing from your boyfriend's closet to say the least.

Fitted cropped pants

Continuing with the androgynous influence, fitted cropped pants were seen on almost every menswear show this season. Teamed with oversized tops or layered with man-skirts on top, we've seen many versions of these bottoms of choice.Whether spiced up with inventive use of materials such as croc-effect leather - as was the case at Songzio - or fitted to the brim as seen at Blindness, men will get the chance to show off those calves of steel they worked so hard on at the gym.

Man capes

Another winter trend which was seen extensively at SFW FW15 is the coveted cape. This time in a men's version though. Jehee Sheen showed a beautifully-tailored chic version of this cool outerwear with fur collar, while labels like Ordinary People and Caruso took a more casual approach by adding prints and colours. Menswear label SLING STONE also showed a cool knitted version which looked like a cross between a cardigan and a shawl. Worn over everything from fitted to flared pants, the cape was updated to look more modern than ever and by the looks of it, will be next winter's must-have item for stylish men in Korea.

The beret

Oui, bien sûr, Korean designers seem to have fallen in love with everything French this season - including the beret. Kimseoryong and 87mm led the stylish French revolution by showing the headgear styled with various looks, from casual to chic. It is also worth noting that the beret was also seen on some womenswear shows - making it the headgear du jour for both genders this season.

Bling it on

Forget those clean silhouettes and minimalist trends - next winter will see men competing with rappers by showing off some bling! From full-on fur jackets to leather coats - opulence is the keyword it seems. The always fashion-forward Resurrection showed a statement jacket with two-tone fur which is to die for while SONGZIO had a patent leather coat, which is surely not for the faint-hearted. More fur was present at Vanhart di Albazar and A AV, though in more toned down way.
